... except in the part of the Hall and Oates tune when it goes "I'll do anything that you want me to do." Jon's notes just aren't working there (cringe!).

A little Melodyne could fix that.

Is that some kind of pitch-shifting software or a prescription sleep aid?

The first one. In fact, it can change and correct pitch polyphonically within chords. It's like creepy voodoo magic.

I wonder if that's what a friend of mine used to make John Coltrane's solo on "Giant Steps" diatonic. Not kidding!

    That was pretty damn cool.
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally

Could be... omg I'd love to hear that! That guy better be careful, Trane's probably waiting for him in the afterlife with a ballpeen hammer.

I looked for it on the guy's website, but it wasn't there. It was pretty amusing; no modulations, everything in the same key. I think Trane might've had a chuckle if he heard it.

The same guy got a hold of the original score of Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever" and recreated it with synth samples of all the instruments... which isn't that interesting. What was interesting is that he took an eighth note out of every bar for every instrument so that the whole thing was in 7/8. You might say he was very serious about his humor, since the project took forever. This eccentric individual was my roommate from '79-'84 and went on to play bass guitar and synth bass on Madonna's first world tour. Not too long after, he quit playing music altogether and became the editor for a dirt biking magazine. Years later, he got back into music... Bulgarian music. He's traveled to Bulgaria to play with musicians there and is considered by them to be the best American bass playing practitioner of their music. He's definitely one of a kind!

Cool. “Owner” never went down quite this smooth before.

You could mash up Sound Chaser with Hip To Be Square with a little editing. I may try that if I can find the tracks
