Possible Guns 'N Roses original line-up reunion

    Hey, this is great news!

    http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/the...eunion-rumors/

    Let's see what happens...

GNR is one of those heavy metal bands that I think are actually very good. Some of their more complex songs like "November rain" and "Estranged" should be of interest of prog fans. Does somebody else here like GNR??

If they kick out Axl... and Duff... and that drummer... I might be interested!

What's wrong with Axl? He's a fine composer.

Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally

This is all dependent on whether there's anything good on TV. If so, Axel will be delayed.

OK, you're right guys, Axl can't sing anymore, but I don't understand why so much against him. He's not the only once good singer whose voice has deteriorated. Think of Ian Gillan, Steve Walsh, Greg Lake... These people drink, smoke, and, above all, they are older.
If this tour happens, it would be a nostalgia act, but a good one, I think; one that many fans have expected for years. Nobody expects top singing or, even, top playing. These guys are no virtuosos. Even Slash, who has written very memorable guitar solos, sucked when he played live during the Illusion tour (too much booze or pot I guess Duff & Steve also had a serious drug problem, but now they're clean. Besides, Axl, even if his voice has become crappy, he's known to be very disciplined and a perfectionist. So, maybe now they can put better shows than before. I'm just wondering and stating my opinion, of course

Also, don't forget, he has to "warm up his voice". A lot of singers do that before the show is due to start, but I believe Axl waits until the show is supposed to be on - meaning that, if you are lucky, he will arrive on stage before the advertised finishing time.

You'd be right in guessing that I am not whooping with delight over this little rumour. The band had a couple of good songs... I don't consider them an essential part of rock music's heritage. I remember them chiefly for showing how to pronounce the word "door" with five syllables.

Well, I never enjoyed Axl's voice and I think he writes terrible songs so I'm not really the target audience for this Slash was the only reedeming thing about GnR for me, personally. And I'd rather see him in a different band. But for fans, sure, this is pretty cool I'd think.

OK, let me be perfectly clear. Guys like Axl Rose deserve nothing but ridicule and scorn from the public. Why? Because he has consistently disrespected the paying customer for his entire career. The fact that 1) some people are excited about this, and 2) they are willing to be subjected to more disrespect from him completely amazes me.

Anyway, have fun at the concert and remember to bring plenty of provisions.

I welcome a reunion and tour.

I'm one who legitimately caught G'NR before they hit it big. I enjoyed them then and enjoy them now. I thought Chinese Democracy was good. The music is well done. I recently made instrumental versions of the entire album and I have been listening to those regularly for the past few weeks. If anyone wants a sample, let me know…

As for Slash, I never caught on to any of his solo stuff. I have Velvet Revolver's 1st CD and saw them in concert, but I didn't like them too much. Same goes for Snakepit or his current solo venture.

Chinese democracy is indeed an excellent album, but sadly underrated IMHO. My only complaint is that Buckethead (I'm a big fan of him too) didn't make it to the final mix.

Slash's Snakepit & Velvet Revolver are OK, but I'm not very enthusiastic about Slash's strict solo albums (maybe the reason is I can't stand Myles Kennedy's voice). Duff's solo material is weak too. My favourite GNR solo albums are by Izzy Stradlin and Gilby Clark.

I would also like to hear a proper release (maybe a live album or dvd) by Kings of Chaos, to see how well (or bad) some of these guys are playing these days.

Totally agree! Watch the Rock In Rio full concert with Buckethead (I believe it is RnRio 2002?) -- great show!

Izzy's Ju Ju Hounds 1st disc was a good one.

I liked GnR when they debuted. After all those phony hair metal bands it was a relief to see a band that played hard, take-no-prisoners rock without a lot of glam and posing or half-baked Aerosmith-lite power ballads. It was rock n roll with no apologies. Use Your Illusion is still a pretty decent 80 mins when you cut out the excesses.

A reunion would be a cash cow for all those band members who have been wandering in the wilderness for a very long time. If I were Slash and Duff I'd have some sort of constraints on Mr Rose like, "Listen fucker, you get warmed up or whatever the fuck your excuse is well before the goddamn show. We go on at 8:00 or we'll kick your fucking ass." Except with more legalese.

Interesting reading this thread: "Appetite..." is a great album, a standout for its time, even....but they lost me after that one....I didnt care for anything else. Then, of course, I was digging all that post-hair/pre grunge music that was going on in those few years...Maybe I should revisit

Yes, you should. Lies is interesting too. It showed the raw and folky sides of GNR. There's some very ballsy playing on the "live side" of Lies and it has, also, Axl's best vocal performances IMHO.

The only time I ever saw GnR live was in 1987 when they opened for The Cult. I had never heard of them, thought the band name was stupid and that they looked ridiculous when they took the stage.

They then proceeded to kick my ass and upstage the headliners!

But that was then... wouldn't care to see them almost 30 years later.

Agree with all this. They got to be a bloated stadium rock band and imploded, but whenever I hear anything from that debut, it strikes me how well it's aged compared to most everything else from that style, place and time. The production helps, none of that cavernous reverb, and no questionable keyboard sounds. And truly iconic riffs. They certainly never came close to matching it in my view.

It would be a big earner, make no mistake, but Axl Rose's mercurial tendencies will always have to be considered a risk. In my sixth-form days in high school (mid 2000s), even then I knew people who had these as their favourite band. That 'Greatest Hits' album has been a massive seller in the UK, perhaps the US as well, and hooked in a new generation.

I saw the same tour. They were fantastic!

I saw them about a year later opening up for Iron Maiden, and they were still pretty good.

So I am curious. Have none of you former G & R fans checked out any of Slash’s recent solo albums he has done with Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge? Seriously I think this rival G & R and are outstanding hard rock records. They have done 3 albums together now and they are all excellent. It is by far the best stuff he has done since the breakup of G & R. Everyone seems to overlook them, but they are well worth checking out. In addition Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators absolutely kick ass live in concert as well. I saw them last year. Along with his solo stuff, they cover G & R and Velvet Revolver. Believe me Kennedy can sing rings around both Axl and Scott Weiland.

Kennedy does nothing for me and the songs seem 'eh'. I wish I did like him.

I would rather hear what Slash could have added to the Chinese Democracy music.

Interesting. Having seen Kennedy live a couple of times I honestly think he has one of the best voices in rock right now. I have never heard him hit a bum note and his range is as wide live as it is on the records. There is a reason he was almost Robert Plant's replacement in Led Zeppelin after the re-union a few years ago. I also think he happens to be a pretty good songwriter and he also is a very good guitarist in his own right.

Don't they have to wait the regularory 30 y rule to do this???

AAMOF, I think the 40Y exception should be applied for G'nR (hopedfully, I'll be dead by then )
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
