PROG Magazine wants your help to.....

Help Prog magazine make the ultimate call on the great prog bands and artists of all time...
The time has come, we have decided, to finally answer the question: who is the greatest prog band or artist of all time?

Should a classic band take the crown? Perhaps you're partial to Pink Floyd, crazy about King Crimson, cuckoo about Camel? Or maybe it's a solo artist that's wowed you the most: perhaps Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush or Steven Wilson are more deserving? Speaking about Wilson, what about more modern prog – perhaps Opeth, Anathema or Mastodon top your list?

Now is the chance for Prog readers to have their say as we compile the ultimate list of the 100 Greatest Prog Bands and Artists of all time.

It's easy to get involved. Just e-mail us your list of your top five favourite prog bands and/or artists of all time. Make sure you tell us why you've made each each choice – you never know, you might find yourself in print when we publish the results.

And simply e-mail your list to us here. We'll be publishing the list in a future issue of Prog. Closing date for entries is Friday 3 July. We look forward to seeing all your choices.

I might be nit-picking here, but it seems that Prog Magazine is treading water in a sea of retarded sexuality and bad poetry.

with not too too too much thought behind it i went:

    King Crimson
    Marillion
    Thinking Plague
    Peter Gabriel
    Steven Wilson

shrug...i considered all the slip ups of Rush, Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd, the saminess that are the Magmas, etc. and decided to not go with them and consider all of these guys' (that i picked) affects on me...i would consider echolyn, Kayo Dot, The Mars Volta (but that's over and their recent collabs are pretty damn disappointing), Steely Dan (but sorta not "PROG!"), and Gazpacho but they're either obviously influenced by the above or vice versa that...actually now that i consider it, SW i would replace with someone else who i don't know really right now....oh well.

And what is "Greatest of all time"? By $$$ earned? By influence?
Looks like most people so far didn't get it: the poll is about Greatest Prog Bands and Artists of all time, not about their favorite bands.
Anyway, this poll is boring and predictable: we all know the result in advance: PF, Yes, Genesis, KC, ELP, GG, etc.
Although we now have Cardiac is one of the "Greatest Prog Bands and Artists of all time"? Yeah, what is prog?

Wouldn't be surprised if Dream Theater & Muse are in the top 10?

Finally! Looking forward to this. Once this is settled we will never have to discuss it again!

    Because...

I like Gentle Giant but they dont move me like Crimson...this will take some serious sit down time. Better get started!

How about publishing a list of the 10 best up-and-coming prog bands/artists?
