    2015 GRAMMY Awards show tonight

8pm et, CBS. Lots of performances slated; which is good as the actual award means sh*t.

Looking forward to Jeff Lynne/ELO, although I expect a rushed medley. Also AC/DC should be fun, Sir McCartney & Rihanna/Kanye, Gaga & Tony Bennett, the always entertaining Madonna, Annie Lennox and so much more....
(Oh, that's about it for me actually.)

I'll pass. Would much rather watch zombies.

    There's a difference?

I'm assuming the show will be on in my house. I will probably catch a few performances. I'm sure we will get the usual crowd here 'discussing' the show.

Good point. Though I have yet to see a zombie twerk.

I understand there will a tribute of some kind to Jack Bruce. I'll record the show and FF to any decent performances, if any.

Didn't even know the Grammies were tonight. Thanks for the reminder about Walking Dead though. God I need that...

Well someone made the right decision who should "kick" off the show. I really was laughing out loud at some of the people wincing while trying to look like they knew wtf they were listening to.

For those dead who are walking (or smart enough to not be watching tv), it was AC/DC.

They had the ::Applause:: signs lit up I bet! Especially for the first (new?) song they did. Should've opened with "Back In Black". Lady Gaga looks hot; Tony Bennett looked very happy being with her. Tom Jones sounding amazing of course.

-- Pharrell Williams and Lang Lang, “Happy” - A
Prog version of the song. ;-)

    -- Hozier/Annie Lennox, “Take Me to Church”/”I Put a Spell on You” - B+

-- Adam Levine and Gwen Stefani, “My Heart is Open” - B

    -- Jeff Lynne’s ELO, “Evil Woman”/”Mr. Blue Sky” - A

-- Ed Sheeran, “Thinking Out Loud” - B
John Mayer had nice guitar solo. Herbie Hancock was wasted on piano.

    -- Madonna, “Living for Love” - B

    -- Kanye West, “Only One” - C-
Great example of the power of Auto-tuning.

-- Miranda Lambert, “Little Red Wagon” - B

-- Jessie J and Tom Jones, “You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling” - A
Great song. Tom Jones' voice is still very strong.

-- Ariana Grande, “Just a Little Bit of Your Heart” - A
Nice to hear someone with a beautiful voice who didn't feel like she had to be flashy.

    -- AC/DC, "Rock or Bust"/Highway to Hell" - C+

I caught Katy Perry's performance - She doesn't bother me, but her performance didn't impress at all.
Then Tony Bennett/Lady Gaga - very, very nice
Imagine Dragons on a Target commercial, but an entire performance - I liked it
Usher singing a Steve Wonder song - would have preferred a better song. Usher's a talented guy, and I would have liked something different.

Would've preferred Stevie singing. Especially since they keep promoting his special.

    Edit ....AAAAAaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnddddddddddddd he's presenting.

Interesting blend this year, more like a Grammys of old in some ways. Even the rappers are actually singing "songs" this year. Beck seems like a head scratcher though. Even he looks sort of amazed he won. That was his sleepy "I'm older" abum, funny to see him win for album of the year but good for him.

I agree with all of your points, Scott. Katy and Usher were pretty blah.

-- Beck, Chris Martin, “Heart is a Drum” - A
Got a Simon and Garfunkel vibe from this one. Nice acoustic parts with some great harmonies. Favorite performance of the evening so far.

    -- Sia, "Chandelier" - A
I won't rate it on music, but the stage show kept my interest.

    -- Juanes, “Juntos” - B+
Very nice change of pace from the other songs.

-- Sam Smith, Mary J. Blige, “Stay With Me” - B+
Their voices blend together nicely. Like the string section too.

-- Rihanna, Paul McCartney, Kanye West, “Four Five Seconds” - C+
    Generic pop. McCartney totally wasted.

-- Brandy Clark and Dwight Yoakam, “Hold My Hand” - C+

-- Eric Church, “Give Me Back My Hometown” - B-
    Don't care for his voice.

-- Usher, “If It’s Magic” (Stevie Wonder tribute) - B-
Might have been better with a different song. Stevie Wonder on harmonica at the end. Nice harp accompaniment.

-- Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, "Cheek to Cheek" - A
This works surprisingly well. Nice guitar solo in the middle too.

-- Katy Perry, “By the Grace of God” - B-

    -- Common, John Legend, “Glory” - B+
Legend's voice is great. Not a big fan of rap, but this was well done (no big bass beats). Really liked the combination of Gospel with Classical.

-- Beyonce, “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” - C+
Extremely well done. It deserves an A, but Gospel music is not one of my favorites.

I don't give a rat's ass for her music or for that matter her stage show, but Madonna (age 56) has definitely taken care of her body, and is still very athletic.

If you're talking to me, I believe that I covered all of the songs. The order of my reviews is confusing. I was doing them in reverse order as of the time that I was posting each note.

The reason that I did that is that I was using info from a review in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that was being updated throughout the show. See http://www.stltoday.com/entertainmen...2fe8e9691.html for that reviewer's thoughts on the performances.

With Sam Smith's song "Stay With Me" being jointly credited to Tom Petty,
how many other (original titled) songs have won Grammy's that were borrowed from another artist?

All this time I thought "Stay With Me" was sung by a female. Yeah, first time I heard the chorus I immediately thought ......well I, won't back down....no I, won't back down....

I was stuck watching about an hour and a half of the show with my wife and daughter. I think I saw two about awards handed out during that entire time.

Ah, I see. In other news- You really gave Madonna a B? That song was shite. Sounded like some of Rhianna's leftovers.
