Wireless... excellent. Flat Earth... wonderful. Aliens... also quite a lot of goodness... Dolby... fabulous
And the code is a play, a play is a song, a song is a film, a film is a dance...

Does anyone have any of his soundtrack work? Howard The DucK? Gothic? Is there any reason to buy any of his "best of" Compilations? Retrospectacle? The Singular Thomas Dolby? How about CD single b sides?

I used to listen to the the Gothic soundtrack fairly often, but I was a big admirer of the movie. Doesn't seem very necessary now though.

Flat Earth is probably my least favorite Dolby album, but it's still quite good. I'm a massive fan, especially of Golden Age. That's a never-changing Desert Island Disc for me.

I read a recent interview with Dolby. He talked about why he dropped out of the music business. One of the reasons was, "I don't know much musical theory." Um, aren't there books and community college classes on that?

I don't believe that... I think he just found the fun/cash ratio better in other enterprises like programming...

I'm not sure I forgive him for spending so much time selling ring tones.

I got the 12x12 CD which has extended versions and remixes. Also the bonus tracks, some live, that you can download if you register on his website. Prefer the original over most of the remixes, but there's a few where the reverse is true. The main bonus I'd recommend is the 2009 release of the Golden Age of Wireless, since that includes a DVD of his 1983 Live Wireless concert. I have a pristine boot of that concert which also includes a couple of music videos, one featuring the inimitable Eddie Van Halen on guitar.
