Who are the best 'modern' drummers?

The only one on the list I'm familiar with is Michael Miley who I would describe as a modern day John Bonham.

Rhythm readers’ top 10 rock drummers
    1.Travis Barker, Blink-182

    2.Taylor Hawkins, Foo Fighters

3.John Fred Young, Black Stone Cherry

    4.Brent Fitz, Slash

    5.Tommy Clufetos, Black Sabbath

    6.Stix Zadinia, Steel Panther

    7.Matt Cameron, Pearl Jam

    8.Shannon Larkin, Godsmack

    9.Michael Miley, Rival Sons

    10.Matt Helders, Arctic Monkeys

I like Gavin Harrisons work on just about everything I've heard. Also Audie Desbrow, longtime drummer for the band great White. Still playing all around with a new singer.
    Still alive and well...

Kinda surprised that Jon Theodore isn't on there, since he recently resurfaced with Queens of the Stone Age. I can't say I've heard what he's done with them, but he was an absolute BEAST with the Mars Volta

For me it's Gavin Harrison and Mark Guiliana.

Gavin Harrison has won several "best drummer" polls, so I find it amazing that he did not even feature in this magazine's Top 10. Still, I'm not familiar with most of the names there, so can't make judgment.

"Modern" to me just means current players at the top of their game.

The only one I have actually seen live is Brent Fitz. He was good, but I can't say I was blown away by him. I have albums by Rival Sons, Black Stone Cherry, the most recent version of Sabbath, and Foo Fighters. All quality stuff, but not sure that any of these guys would rank up with some of the prog people like Harrison.

That list is obviously sorely missing Phil Collins.

Most likely he was excluded because it was about drummers currently active.

Travis Barker? He is not a bad drummer, but best? He doesn't even rate imo.

Yeah man! Complete reinvention of the Holdsworth catalog on stage every night? Essential live show to see.

Also, after Tuesday night's Adrian Belew Power Trio spectacle at the NJ Proghouse, one has to ask: where is Tobias Ralph? He's the impossible to contain lovechild of the Roadrunner and the Tasmanian Devil....

Duncan's going to make a Horns Emoticon!!!

Seriously? Some of you need to "get out" more. I could probably name at least 10 current jazz drummers who could play everything those already mentioned can and more.

And yes, Rufus, jazz can be modern......and progressive.....and interesting................

But that guy from Slash's band beats the crap out of Kerman, Ågren, Yoshida, K. Abrams, D. Che, Bodie, Z. Hill, M. Sabatini, G. Serbian, P. Nilssen-Love etc. And so does not least that dude from Arctic Monkeys - DEFO!!!

I usually don't comment of these list type threads, but I must say...yikes. This is a pretty abysmal list. Never heard of this Rhythm Magazine though...perhaps it's not a surprise if I knew the clientele they cater to.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.
