    Psicomagia

Curious if anybody here is familiar with this band. They're on the same label as Causa Sui but they're way more out there. I find at times they channel Soft Machine, circa III; with a certain psychedelic penchant.

I've been digging it a lot of late:

    Yep. Great stuff.

Brian Ellis (guitarist from Astra) plays the sax on this one.

It's an interesting disc. I enjoy it, but it has yet to really capture me, as it were. Of course, I haven't given it a lot of time either. There's a deep underground vibe to it, which is really cool.

It's an acquired taste as it's a pretty relentless assault, esp. the tracks I posted links to. I figured a few people here might be familiar.

This is a good one. I got it earlier this year and still think it's one of the better things I've heard this year. Relentless is a good description. Funny you mention Causa Sui. I was checking out the other stuff on their label and stumbled on Psicomagia.

Anybody else on that label you'd recommend? It's how I fell upon them myself though I did not pursue afterwards...

Sounds about like me. Liked most of the samples of other bands I checked out, but Psicomagia and Causa Sui were the two that really stood out. Consequently, those are the only two from El Paraiso I have right now.

I really enjoy Papir. I'd suggest starting with Stundum, but the three discs I own are all good.

Totally different vibe from Psicomagia, though.

I remember sampling them a few months back. I liked it but decided not to buy any that day. I'll go back and revisit them...

OK...those two clips were frillin' great!!!! I loved the short bit of Rondo ala Emerson towards the end of PT 2

Agree that there is a bit of SM circa III...I also heard a bit of The Mars Volta in there too.

    I MUST get these!

Glad you liked it! I posted the "meat" of the album though I find the tracks flow really well together and there are some lighter passages to balance things out.

This reminded me of: Hidria Spacefolk (Not a bad thing by any stretch)

Great band and intense stuff. We brought this one up in the retro prog thread a few months back. Some of the more intense parts remind me of Larry Young's Love Cry Want band from the early 70s. I did manage to get a small feature up for this album last year: http://undertheradarcds.blogspot.com...magia-usa.html
