Prog "sacred cows" you feel are overrated

I'm sure I'll get some flak for this but WTFC?

    Here's mine:

All members of Yes, past and present, excepting Peter Banks and Patrick Moraz
    John Wetton
    Eddie Jobson
    Peter Gabriel
    "The lamb"
    "close to the edge"
    Allan Holdsworth
    that's good for a start...

A.H. is to a large degree in a different place than the others on that list...not sure how sacred a cow he is, lots of people who have no clue about what he's up to think he's overrated.

Why don't you just throw in The Pope and Gandhi while you're at it...

It's easy to throw together a controversial list of names, especially those who have released significant output and are still drawing at concerts. Harder to provide rationale as to why they are overrated. Maybe change the title to "prog sacred cows I don't care for". Then at least there would be no expectation to explain your choices.

    Genesis and VDGG

YES gets way more attention than they warrant as well

all others get about the right amount of attention (or less)
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

    The Lamb- definitely.
Close To The Edge- Nope. Can't be overrated
Wetton? Not a sacred cow at all.
Jobson- I'd say many people overrate him

    VDGG/Hamill solo IMO!!!

Lord knows I've tried enough, but it ain't ever gonna happen.

I've often wondered, based on the above, why Discipline/Parmenter solo is some of my most favorite music.

More like "I don't like it" or "I don't get it," as I wouldn't presume to define what's over- or underrated. With that disclaimer out of the way ...

I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

Banks, Moraz and Kaye would come under my heading of under rated musicians who should be considered Prog Holy Cows.

Three of my least played albums here (seriously)

    Close To The Edge
Foxtrot (and I am including Suppers Ready)

Totally agree with "The early 80s Crimson" and most of ELP output.
But I politely disagree on Lamb.

Also agree with solo Gabriel simply because it is not "prog", IMHO, but an inventive high quality pop.

Sorry, but this is not a good criteria to me. I also don't listen to those albums very often simply because I've listened to them too much in the past But they are prog milestones nevertheless and not overrated at all. Just my 2 cents.
