I could be mistaken but I did not hear any backing tracks (which shouldn't have to be a pleasant surprise these days, but kind of is).

So, she was just great as any solid live band should be. Considering I knew next to nothing about her before the show started, it was a wonderful discovery and I became an instant fan.
Sorry, I guess what I meant was was it only her? I should have been more specific.

Oh, ok! No, she had a full band with her. It's a very cool atmospheric sound...not quite post rock or prog rock, but very very dark, atmospheric stuff played superbly well.

Was just listening to the new album on the way to work this morning. HOLY SHIT!!! This is probably her best album yet!!

"Ugly & Vengeful" sounds like it will be my new favorite Anna epic. This takes things to a whole new level.

I'm really loving the new one as well...although I'm hard-pressed to pick a favorite among any of her last three

I've never understood why more people don't sing about it. It's one of the few universal themes.
To repeat my point, this is well trodden territory and yes indeed a universal theme in art and literature. The greatest works or literature are usually tragedies not comedies. We could certainly start a thread of prog works with the theme of death and mortality. Van Der Graaf Generator's "Still Life" immediately comes to mind...

I just discovered her album from last year. I did not remember her ever being discussed here, but searched and found this thread. The album is really good. Kind of reminds me of Bent Knee at times. Maybe some Kate Bush and "Low" era David Bowie as well. Definitely will be seeking out more of her stuff.

Excluding her first album, which is really kind of a different beast (good, but different), they are all great Steve.
