Just got this last week. I'm really enjoying it - I've tried a couple of albums in the past, including Tightly Unwound, and I found those interesting and worth hearing but they just didn't click with me in terms of the songs. It seems to me that Magnolia is a much stronger set of songs, and I'm really glad I took a chance on it (after reading a good interview with Bruce Soord in the last issue of Prog - in which none of the usual clichés were made, but in which they mentioned the album features the string arranger of The Divine Comedy).
There's definitely a KScope sort of sound going on here. But where I found the last Anathema album to be rather like "more of the same", and that band seems a bit like a one trick pony (albeit a trick I like a lot), I'm really impressed by the diversity, playing, writing and production on The Pineapple Thief's Magnolia.
