Just based on one spin I'm thinking this will be a top three Present album for me but I need to spend some time with it. Pretty impressive though.
Yes the keyboardist and drummer, the latter also with Krokofant. I haven't heard Wizrd yet but am on spin number three with Soft Ffog. I like it. Should have called themselves Heavy Fog though. Love...
Apollon Records sent me this cd a month or so ago, like a promo copy. It is different. I just started playing it this week and have heard it maybe 3 times. A definite 80's vibe at times and I keep...
My top 7 in order:
Zopp- Dominion
Lars Fredrik Froislie- Fire Fortellinger
One Shot- 111
Jordsjo- Salighet
Sonar- Three Movements
Univers Zero- Lueur
The Chronicles Of Father Robin- Book I
...
I became aware of her when I picked up Dewa Budjana's Mahandini album. She does konnakol on it and man what a player. Marco Minnemann is the drummer on this one, Jordan Rudess keyboards with guests...
Just wanted to mention Zechs Marquise out of El Paso Texas, they released two studio albums in '08 and '11 and very different from each other. The debut has a lot of soundscapes and mellotron while...
I just played A Path Through Haze last week and it's such a good album with a nice psychedelic/jazz flavour and more. 1971 I think.
And I'm surprised Lars Fredrik Froislie isn't one of the very special guests like on the first two.
I hear ya, spun Book III tonight for the first time and it's different from the first two. Prestmo is sounding like Jon Anderson more than ever at times on this one.
The Chronicles Of Father Robin released an EP in 2013 I have a cdr of it and they included a track off of it on their debut.
I like how you connect these two wonderful albums. Huge fan of both.
First thing to come to mind was The Funeral Plain a UZ classic.
Great post Udi, I love reading technical stuff like this. I'm sure Fromy used this technology as well with Unit Wail. I think I'll go and play "Retort" now.
Listened to Space Shanty tonight by Khan. Some really nice guitar on this one and like almost all Canterbury albums this record brightens my mood.
I'm listening all this week to One Shot's and Univers Zero's latest offerings. Really enjoying both. That one vocal track on Lueur reminded me of John Greaves for some reason so last night I spun...
He plays flute on a couple of tracks on Until AllThe Ghosts Are Gone. I only saw Theo live once playing with Steven Wilson but it was a treat.
Listened to Quiet Sun's Mainstream yesterday.
Ended 2023 with Soft Machine's Dutch Lessons but that was so yesterday. Inspired by this made in Canada thread I just spun Presents From Nancy by Supersister and will follow that up with The Highest...
^ Thanks for all that Bill, I need to check out Isobar and Gravity Fields because I agree with the Sonar and Froislie picks.
Kosmodome sounds interesting, anything like Kanaan? I only have their Downpour record with Hedvig guesting on one track but man that is a great record, these guys can play.
I'm looking forward to spending some real time with this, and I have to say the pictures of the guys looking like they have their heads in an orange is almost fascinating along with the cover art....
Over 2 hours of music is a lot. I was just glad to read some comments on this one. The other one I'm not hearing any thing about is Hedvig Mollestad Weejuns. From what I understand some structured...
I've just gone through this one once(a lot of music) and quite liked it although I'm really into stuff like Sonar, Thelen, Stick Men, Komora type stuff. I will say the one thing that stood out for me...
Could be my top three but I have 4 weeks and 12 cds to get through first.
Well we got a taste of One Shot with the dual keyboard setup and that monster rhythm section on the live "A James" but I can't wait to hear what they come up with for a studio album.
Alex Lifeson on Allan Holdsworth. "Allan Holdsworth has an amazing, out-of-this-world liquidity. What a genius! His fingers are constantly moving. Pulls make up the bulk of his playing; I don't think...
I just ordered this from Wayside, I wasn't going to miss out a second time. And they have One Shot's "III" along with Agitation Free's new one. My Christmas presents to myself. Could not be happier.
100% on all you said.
I keep it in Symphonic despite the music reaching far beyond that. Some of these songs could have fit on previous albums.
I had to look her up but she went by Hibou and hasn't been on the site since 2009.
The new Jack O The Clock album is on the way, looking forward to it. I can't wait to make a best of list for this...
Okay I keep digging myself deeper. I mentioned reviewing "Fades" that Sacha was a Transvestite based on some info here. I get a message from him he's not a Transvestite. So I come here and should...
I just received a message from Sacha and he says he's not a transexual or gay or anything like that.:lol Amazing voice!
The only thing wild about me is my hair.
I post seldom at PE because I know nothing compared to the regulars on here.
I remember messaging a female on the Prog Archives site who did a lot of...
Your a natural but don't give up writing those reviews.:up
I really felt Leaving California was a step back although the two Repetitions Of The Old City along with the earlier Night Loops is an...
I really appreciate you posting this Kai, some interesting history there about the band and the Wigwam connections. I wasn't blown away by this by any means but I value it highly for that melancholic...
I think Heavy Soul Sessions has become my favourite. Still love Reflections From The Firepool and Burning The Hard City from the early days and would add Still No Commercial Potential and The Trip...
I have this on cd a Rocket records re-issue from 2010. Spun it yesterday and today. I love the melancholy, the black and white pictures of the band. The band's name and cover art really don't...
Preordered the new UZ from Wayside.
RIP Carla
I believe I first heard of her through her first husband's album The Hapless Child and I'm talking Michael Mantler here. That record had Rypdal, Wyatt, DeJohnette and her future husband...
The Who lead the way but don't count Gene and the boys out.;)
Pretty cool to be the opener on the final Kiss tour across Canada and Gene will be having flashbacks I'm sure. Love the stories he told about the Rush guys opening for them back in the 70's. Funny...
Was Marshall not the king of drum solos? I feel the most recorded drum solos I own studio and live are by John Marshall. Love his work with Nucleus and Soft Machine. Babbington has to be the bass...
The Alphataurus debut, especially when you open those gate folds. Such a cool picture with a lot of detail.
Opeth's In Cauda Venenum and again open the gate folds and how crazy is this picture....
And Neal Morse is the new drummer?
They did a live one? The year after Knirsch. Just looked it up on Discogs and only Dauner is left from Knirsch along with Braceful but his drumming coming out of the left speaker and a Serb Jazz...
There's not many new releases that get me excited anymore but Jordsjo does that for me and The Chronicles Of Father Robin release coming soon which features Hakon from Jordsjo is another.
The Jord...
It's such a unique story and to read Roberta Flack's opinions on him and his talent was very cool.
I did one of those reviews on PA and got all my info from the liner notes. My cd is a Laser's Edge issue and it relays Hermann's story in detail.
I only have their debut "Scars Of The Midwest" and it's a keeper. Melancholia in spades but it has everything I like about post Rock.
There is surprisingly little from this country that I consider favourites. Supersister of course and I like the first two Alquin records, the first Solution album and Group 1850. Kracq and Monomyth...

Dolorosa- Het!
Pseu- s/t
Yochk'o Seffer- Ghilgoul
Saino- s/t
Rahmann- s/t
Yog Sothoth- s/t
Step Ahead- s/t
Unit Wail- Retort
Jannick Top- Infernal Machina
My two favourite Needlepoint albums are Aimless Mary and Walking Up That Valley and both are in my Canterbury section.
Not sure if Mushroom Giant was mentioned I have their 2014 album Painted Mantra sort of a heavy psyche/ post rock styled affair.
My top two as well but I missed the last few.
I don't feel it shouldn't exist but personally dislike unplugged and most all acoustic music. Syrinx is one exception from France. Probably why I find Chamber music difficult for he most part.
Different strokes but I'll take Plant over Geddy and Anderson any day and Plant's solo stuff is so pedestrian, especially his vocals compared to the mighty Zep. Pass.
David Lundberg of GBS is also part of Necromonkey who I don't think have released anything since 2015 and to my ears GBS starting with "Et Ex" have gone more into that Necromonkey, electronic driven...
Count me in, they remind me a little of Sonar, Stick Men and the like but more experimental and less about the precision. KC is both in my opinion.
Well I know two of those.:lol
Univers Zero- Relaps What an incredible archival release from Cuneiform Records. UZ were a beast in the 80's and some of my favourite tracks are on here. So intense!...
I haven't heard their last five studio albums but I'm a big fan of "Surpassing All Kings", "By The Waters Of Tomorrow" and "Droga" but my favourite is "The Split Thing" they did with Germany's own...
