Not sure if Jeff B was, over the long haul, more successful than Tim, but "Grace" did sell far more copies than any album by his father. Tim's "Goodbye & Hello" album iirc got up to 30-something on the Billboard charts.
Oh, and Natalie Cole still has a long way to go before she surpasses her father imo.

Cissy Houston - Whitney Houston

The rapper Nas, son of jazz trumpet player Olu Dara.
Depends what you mean by successful...
Elvis Costello - more sales, known further afield than his dad, more hits
Kim Wilde - more sales, known further afield than her dad, more hits
Hank Williams JR - more sales, known further afield than his dad, more hits
Hank III - more sales, known further afield than his grandaddy, more hits. However I think his dad is still better known round the world.
Michael Brown (Left Banke, Montage, Beckies, Stories) certainly was more successful than his classical/pop jazz violinist father Harry Lookofsky.

Looking forward to my day in court.
I just learned on another forum that Malmsteen/Stratovarius/Dio/Blackmore keyboardist Jens Johansson's father was a jazz musician who composed the theme song to the Pippi Longstocking TV series and had a hit album in Sweden in the 60s.

"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
Jeff Buckley's initial appeal was with the indie-rock crowd, most of whom had never (and wouldn't ever have) heard of his father. Tim Buckley's regard endures to this very day in the "right circuit", meaning that his songwriting/vocal abilities seem to transcend the concept of "popularity". I'm not altogether sure if this is the case with Jeff's, although I like him well enough. But hey, one of them DID have a complete (and utterly impressive) discog to show for.

I am not sure I would list Norah Jones as more successful than Ravi Shankar.
I would add: Christian Vander- Maurice Vander
I'm not lazy. I just work so fast I'm always done.

His father was a Dutch conductor.
I forgot the other obvious answer:
Jean-Michel Jarre, son of Maurice Jarre.
Daryl Dragon, the Captain of 'Captain and Tennille', son of Carmen Dragon, composer, conductor and film composer.
Also another son, Dennis Dragon, drummer of the Surf Punks. Although, Carmen is probably more famous than Dennis.
