One of the most covered songs is jefferson Airplane's "Somebody To Love", and most of them are terriible. It's not their best song by any means, but at least their Surrealistic pillow version has a bit of pizzazz (and the "mono single version" bonus track is better, to my ears.
There is a particularly bad dance club style rendition of Somebody To Love that I heard a number of times about ten years ago. Don't ask me the name of the "artist"; I don't follow the careers of any of those wankers who produce that shit. And I am NOT sorry for the profanity.
I should have mentioned Boney M earlier. It's hard to imagine what's worse: their shameful covers or their cruddy originals.
How dare you! He won a poll for best singer recently! Some would say that he sounds like a crow being thrown into a paper-shredder, and those they polled must have been deaf people with a fetish for men with long, fake red hair, but don't believe them! (Ouch! My sarcasm is off the charts today!)
I know you're kidding, but in fact, Axl didn't win a poll for "best singer". What happened was, someone analyzed the singing ranges of various singers, presumably as demonstrated on their records, and they found that Axl, apparently, has the widest range. Nobody ever said he was the best singer. They just said he had the widest vocal range, from lowest note to highest note.
My personal worst:
Motley Crue's version of Helter Skelter
Megadeth's version of Anarchy In The UK
and the absolute worse shit ever, the Scorpions' version of I Can't Explain.
Any cover GnR did... heck I hated their originals too.
I've heard, a couple times now, a cover of 'Light My Fire', sang by a hollering female. I have no idea who it is but it is absolutely horrendous.
I like this! Yeah, it's awful but incredibly original. I actually don't mind the original, despite totally hating the Rolling Stones. But Devo, I love the rhythm of their cover. A twisted take for sure. If you want a bad Devo cover, then listen to their version of "Are U Experienced?". I sort of like that too, but more a case of "it's so bad it's good".
Someone tried to do a yessy turn of prog on Dan Fogelberg's Longer... it wasn't terrible, twern't great neither.
