Ha! Rap coming from car next to mine - Annie Haslam singing!

This may be old news, but I had no idea. In traffic in Akron a guy pulls up next to me with Rap blaring,... and suddenly Annie Haslam starts singing! I got the young guy's attention and got the name of the artist (he seemed amused). The rapper is Roc Marciano and the song is called Wee lll (we ill). The renaissance tune sampled was Prologue. Has anyone heard comments from Annie (or other Ren. alumni)? Are there any other prog samples going on out there I should be aware of? I was (am) astounded

There are lots of rap songs that sample prog tracks. I'm sure many examples will be listed but I thought of this off the top of my head:

Thanks!,...that's cool. Now that this thread seems to have a theme perhaps, can people who submit examples write what the sampled clip is in the tune in case someone isn't familiar with a particular quoted piece of music? I am amazed at this

The coda bit that starts from 4:15 samples Aurora Borealis by Jukka Tolonen. The rest of the track is pretty cool too.

And of course, there's DJ Shadow sampling Sekoilu seestyy from Pekka Pohjola's Harakka Bialoipokku:

Epic awesome rap group Dalek didn't just sample Faust, but did a full-blown collaboration album with them.

Dalek in general is terrific, and well worth checking out for fans willing to explore.

Speaking of Gentle Giant, this one not only samples Funny Ways, but the album cover also appears in the video (along with Uncle Meat and a couple of Sun Ra albums).

It's not rap, but there is some dance club track that contains a sample from the beginning of "The Fountain of Salmacis" by Genesis. I freaked out on hearing it, as I'm sure I was the only person in the room who knew the source. I have no idea whether it was properly credited or not, but it was fairly tastefully incorporated into the song.

I can't say the same for a thing I saw in a clip some time ago, by an artist calling himself Utah Jazz. The music was basically a portion of "Sentimental" by Porcupine Tree, repeated over and over. This was beyond sampling. There appeared to be nothing in the recording (except for the words) that was NOT lifted from Sentimental. Talk about exploitation. i hope Steven sued the pants off him.

Rappers probably think they are onto a good thing sampling progressive songs. Their audience are unlikely to be familiar with the original, and those who ARE familiar with the original probably won't be listening to rap.

    Car-rap. Say it quickly.

Just for saying...I've been going through the clips in this thread and there are some really great tunes in there. The Madvillan, Jel and Blackalicious in particular were really cool. Thanks to everyone who shared

Sacred Cycles by Peter Lazonby. Classic early 90's trance.

If you want to hear more Annie Haslam and Renaissance in the hip-hop context, here's a nice song:

That entire album is made up of samples; there isn't a self-generated note on the entire album. And, it's the best 'collage album' I've ever heard!

That electronic/moogy music is from Two Rainbows Daily by Hugh Hopper/Alan Gowen.

The money that came in from that one came in as Hugh was dying and it directly paid his rent during the last months of his life.

It was Kanye West. First single from a platinum selling album actually, so Fripp probably got a nice paycheck out of it.

Annie Haslam is not credited on the album but she did appear on the Sugarhill Gang's first album and is listed only as white bitch. She also recently did a track with 50 Cent but sadly that did not make it onto the album. :-(
