    Prog trivia

How trivial can you get? Post your surprising and pointless facts here. The less we needed to know them, the more points you get.

It used to be a favourite trivium of mine that Mike Nesmith's mother invented Liquid Paper. That factoid seems to have passed into common knowledge these days. So here's another:

Jayney Klimek, who among other things has worked on albums by Tony Banks, was born in Melbourne and is a cousin of Nic Cester and Chris Cester from the band Jet.

Jet are most certainly NOT prog. It would be hard to think of two more different musical offerings than Jet and Tony Banks.

For good measure, the Cester brothers' uncle Eugene Cester is a founding member of T.I.S.M..

A lot of people like to point out trivia such as: Peter Gabriel played on a Cat Stevens record, Rick Wakeman played with Bowie, Stevens and Black Sabbath, SImon House and Adrian Belew toured with Bowie, Tenille (sans the Captain) sang with Pink Floyd, the genius behind Kenso is a doctor, Jon Anderson sang on King Crimson's Lizard, Dave Arbus played on Who's Next... these are not secrets....

A "factoid" is supposed to mean something that resembles, but is not in fact a fact, but everyone uses the term as though it means a a trivial fact.

This has evolved into almost common knowledge, but long before The Blues Project, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Super Session w/Stills & Bloomfield and organ on Like A Rolling Stone, Al Kooper at 15 was the guitar player in The Royal Teens ("Who wears short shorts").

    Yes,

Because this story of "oids" is very much the case with white people too,
So then, even if got on a tempting trap when re-directing the topic into a racial subject, the topic urges.....lol.
This means that their are many "whiteoids" wanting to look like true white...lol

We live in the supposed XXI century where all verbal odds went over beyond when focusing any particular north, Ok...

    Well,
All this to tell that number, huge number of latinos,
they born, live and die thinking they are true white peple,
and this never being the case....ok,....lol

This is so clear as water when looking around,
So, in real terms, the fact is that they are not the true northern ideal white .....lol
and this despite the fact of having a white-style life or last names like Smith, Muller, etc...lol

Once this concept clear, the question is:
which can be the colour of the skin of this "latino whiteoid race"?
...A Yellowish tendence dirty whitish with green eyes and skinny?
and, when African, this skinny human shape, once gymnastics made found slender,
to finally arriving to look to be accepted and integrated,.... how long this stands?

Is the supposed exclusive court of white race status the entrance of paradise?
and, it is because the look of white northern, this entrance is closer?...lol

This "oids" has finally true potential for fun, specially when talking or writing abouit on the web, ok...lol

Artist's credits blow my mind; take Simon Phillips, ( http://www.allmusic.com/artist/simon...754875/credits ) most know he goes way back playing on Judas Priests' "Sin After Sin" album.
But he's also on the 801 Live album, Nazareth's "Hair Of The Dog", albums by Gordon Giltrap, Dave Greenslades, Bonnie Tyler, Phil Manzanera, Jack Bruce, Art Garfunkle, Colin Blunstone, Jeff Beck. He was on Jon Andersons' "Song Of Seven" and Mike Rutherford's "Smallcreeps Day". We're only up to 1980 and I still left out dozens of other artists he contributed to!
"Henry Cow always wanted to push itself, so sometimes we would write music that we couldn't actually play – I found that very encouraging." - Lindsay Cooper, 1998
"I have nothing to do with Endless River. Phew! This is not rocket science people, get a grip." - Roger Waters, 2014
"I'm a collector. And I've always just seemed to collect personalities." - David Bowie, 1973

Thought that Emerson played on Honky Chateau- turns out Ponty and David Hentschel (on ARP) played; no KE. Keith, when he played on the Rod Stewart Album, even got his picture in the cover.

Pink Floyd and Genesis had the same drug dealer in the US.

David Gilmour hung out with Genesis for a bit of one of their 1980s tours.

Mike Rutherford and Eddie Van Halen got together in LA with the intent of forming a band, jammed together for a couple weeks, but it didn't pan out.

Genesis owned a brothel in Dallas Texas for a little while.

Andy Summers was born in 1942, so he's 4 years older than Robert Fripp and 8 years older than Steve Hackett. He was in Soft Machine for a bit in 1968.

Andy Summers played with the Animals. Stuart Copeland played with Curved Air. Sting played with himself and 'wept'.

To be more precise, The Phidificent One is a Daytime Emmy winning director on General Hospital.

Being a GH viewer (or at least I was, up until I got sidetracked awhile back, I'm a bit behind these days), I was actually...not necessarily shocked but I couldn't believe when I spotted his name in the opening credits one afternoon. I thought, "Could there possibly be two Phideaux Xaviers in the world?!". Then I looked up his PE profile, and saw that he lists LA as his location and "television production" as his occupation. I said, "Well, there might be two of them, but I don't imagine they both live in LA and work in TV".

So, what does that mean? That means General Hospital is no longer a "guilty pleasure" for me, because I can now legitimately say I watch to support one of my prog rock brethren. I mean, you gotta support the day job.

As for semi-obscure trivia that I know:

American Idol judge Randy Jackson used to be a top flight bassist. He played on I think three of Jean-Luc Ponty's albums, as well as playing on the Blue Öyster Cult song Shooting Shark and I believe playing on most of Journey's Raised On Radio album.

The 8-track version of Pink Floyd's Animals has an alternate version of Pigs On The Wing, where the two verses are joined together by a guitar solo played by Snowy White.

Magma's deal with A&M records occurred at the behest of Herb Alpert himself.

Former Magma bassist Jannick Top spent much of the 80's and 90's backing Johnny Halliday (the French Elvis is how I understand Halliday's place in the musical universe).

The Würm section of Starship Trooper is based on a track called Nether Street, which Steve Howe recorded with Bodast, one of his pre-Yes bands.

Songs by the band FM were used in the movies Incubus and Friday The 13th Part VII. Their former violinist Ben Mink later played with K.D. Lang for many years. Claudio Vena, who played viola and mandolin with FM at NEARfest 2006, I believe I was told once that he won a Juno Award for some TV music he did, but I can't remember what the program was off the top of my head.

Jerry Lewis owned (and maybe still does) a Chamberlin.
