    New Flash/BennettCarter CD excerpts

    Ray Bennett:
"Flash Featuring Ray Bennett & Colin Carter has been out for almost a year now. If you haven't heard any of it yet, you will have to go to bed with no dinner. But before you do, here is a link to some clips for each track. We ain't stingy, they're long clips." ~Ray

^ That is a great one. The whole album has a nice flow to it. I bought the download from my Kindle so I don't have any of the credits. The keyboards are very well written and arranged throughout.

    Flash keyboards

Most of the tracks were written and arranged by Ray Bennett, but the last track, "Richerd of Venice"—another beautiful instrumental—is co-written with keyboardist, "Richerd" Daugherty who's a great addition to the Flash lineup.

Yes keyboardist, Tony Kaye, played as a guest on the first Flash album in 1972, but the band carried on as a three-piece thereafter, unwisely according to Bennett. They're very happy to have found Rick. He's a phenomenal player.

Credit and support in the age of free!

As an aside to hearing the clips from the new Flash CD which is what this thread is about:

There's an initiative to do something about that called "Give Fans the Credit" — to get digital music services to list all credits. Very important for consumers and artists that they do this, just as they do for movies and other art forms. Read about it and sign the petition:
    http://www.grammy.com/credits

    http://www.ascap.com/Playback/2013/0...he-credit.aspx

And one of the artists behind this initiative is also making a documentary called,

"UNSOUND: HOW MUSICIANS AND ARTISTS SURVIVE IN THE AGE OF FREE."

Looks good. Watch the trailer and support the film by investing or spreading the word about it—whatever you're able to do. It's good work!

I haven't listened to this in a while. I will have to spin it again.

It's a horrible album and doesn't even sound like Flash. It should be FLUSH instead.

Nor should it sound like 1972, dude. I don't think it's anywhere near "horrible" -- I don't think it's gonna set my world on fire but it sounds like a good solid effort and I'm glad to hear some of my old favorites are still puttin' it out there.

This video is mistitled, it's not "How Musicians and Artists Survive in the Age of Free," it is how musicians and artists ate NOT surviving.

I think it raises some excellent questions... but I also think it completely misses the point.

The genie is out of the bottle now, the music industry missed the boat on monetizing digital downloads ten years ago, that ship has sailed a long time ago. Now it's up to the musicians and artists to figure out how to reconfigure their broken business model to fit into the new economy. Whining and moaning about the loss of the old business model -- as this video does, over and over -- won't solve the problem.

There are lots of avenues to a revenue stream. Money is still being made. Creativity has not dried up.

Time to stop moaning & start evolving.

    That goes for me, double.

As for what's happening with music digitally, I'm pretty sure we'll eventually find a way to make sure artists get paid again. We'll have to. But who knows how long it'll take? In the meantime, there's nothing wrong with letting people know that expecting something for nothing has never worked out too well, and never will. You DO get what you pay for. And for good reason.
