Thread: Alan White-his best YES album?

    Alan White-his best YES album?

Listening to Relayer right now. There's some real clever drumming on this, some intricate, some heavy & some jazzy fills going on.
I know on the Rabin era albums, whilst still doing a great job he isnt half as adventurous as on Relayer!
Which album do you think Alan shines the most?

I know Alan himself has considered Relayer one of his favorites and high points. If I had to choose one, Relayer would be it!

Relayer...though The Ancient and the percussion section of Ritual are pretty impressive too...

I actually like his drumming on Tormato (imagine that). I prefer this drum sound in all it's rawness to GFTO which is pretty washed out and flaccid.

    Relayer followed by Tales...

Yessongs (of course except for Perpetual Change). Given the fact that he had around two weeks to learn the material, he is on fire on Yessongs. For studio, Relayer it is, although his drums sound really good on Drama. Good engineering.

Any of the early albums he appears on are better than the later ones IMO. Youth = adventure and it shows in his playing.

Hard to explain but considering just his work, I'd choose Relayer, but the Yes rhythm section was never better on any album but Drama. So maybe I can say he did his best on Relayer but his best work with Squire was on Drama if that makes sense.

I would say relayer also. Then tales then drama.

Definitely. I can't believe it took 17 posts for someone to mention that.
