Anyone remember STRIFE? Great early 70's power trio who's first album was called RUSH! I know Don Airey was in the band at one time.Wonder if Geddy & Alex were fans?

Yes, they had that bearded bass player Gordon Rowley who later-on went to form the more commercial NIGHTWING.

The Gods. Some of the members of this band went on to form Uriah Heep

Geordie. Brian Johnson of course went on to be the new singer in AC/DC

Thanx! Those Nightwing albums are actually very good & of course had a pre-GTR Max Bacon!!!

I also liked Blackfoot Sue who apart from a couple of hit singles where relatively obscure!!!

I'm glad no one has mentioned Necromandus.

But I'm surprised no one has mentioned Zephyr yet, the band Tommy Bolin started out in.

And here's one of my fav songs from the Gurvitz brother's now almost forgotten band Gun. Early British hard rock, formed in 67.

Here's the first British hard rock song EVER! And it came from The Kinks in 1964!!!!

Exactly! My point is that soooo many people mention them in heavy rock discussions simply because of their connection to Black Sabbath.
Necromandus had one half decent half-heavy song the rest was bluesy-psychy-folky rock.

There's a pretty good list of proto metal bands over at metalmusicarchives.
