Don't envy you guys. I'm originally from Long Island, Commack to be exact. Moved out west 35 years ago, where it has been 65-70 every day in January.

If you're old, Louis, then I'm dead and doing this all with smoke & mirrors.

The brutal cold here induced another pneumonia episode & hospital admission for Kay on December 25th! She's rid of the pneumonia but all these episodes are taking their toll. Because I've been on blood thinners for 25 years, when the Wisco air gets dry and bitter cold, I start having epistaxis problems (the ten-dollar word for nosebleeds).

We have already made the decision that we will not endure the winter of 2014-15 or any subsequent winter here in the frozen north. It's exponentially causing Kay to need more & more oxygen just to breath with all her respiratory issues. We're already looking for both rentals and houses in the Raleigh/Durham/C Hill area. The one thing we don't know yet is whether we can afford to keep this house and just snowbird, or we'll need to sell and move south for the whole year. Also looking at the Atlanta suburbs (beware, Sean).

Anyway, I too hate f*****g snow and -35 wind chill weather. I'm too dead, um, old for this shit.

Oh and Mass. Dave - F**K YOU!

For me, the fucked up thing is the inconsistency here in Maryland

I've lived here 24 years, I'd say about 9 or 10 of them have featured "bad" winters which I suppose isn't "that" bad

Last year we had almost no snow

I'm south of the Mason - Dixon line - it shouldn't be below 20 degrees with lows below 10 for weeks at a time

    $$now! Keep it coming Mother!!

For me, these are the types of storms I love for plowing driveways. The frigid temps makes for light, powdery snow which makes my crumbling, lower back smile when I have to shovel walks and areas the plow can't reach.

Snow, I have no problem with it. I actually like driving in a snowstorm, less cars on the road for the most part and I actually know how to drive in it, and I think snow is quite beautiful. It helps that I live in an adult community, and they plow our driveway for us. But the damn cold, no thanks! I'm so sick of bundling up like I'm Ralphie's younger brother in A Christmas Story. After this latest storm, I went to work on Wenesday and it was 8 degrees. And we've had a lot of those single degree days. The River by work has been frozen over a few times already. This is NJ, not Canada. Uhg, I just HATE being cold! Spring can't come soon enough! Still, I am rooting for snow next week, just in time for a New Jersey Super Bowl. Of course that will guarantee no more Super Bowls in cold climates....

I was about to yell at you if you didn't say you will be seeking warmer climates for next year. Smart move if you do it, and I hear so many great things about that part of NC. My niece went to law school in Chapel Hill and loved the area.

    Snow ??
Winter was my favorite time of year as a kid !! Snow Days, snowball fights, tunneling thru snowdrifts, just down the street every year there was a snowdrift so high we could walk right up on the guy's roof ! Ice skating, hockey, it was a winter wonderland !

Then I grew older, bought a $100 car, and learned what winter was all about.
Plook this noise! I went on vacation and never came back ! I've been living the 'Green Acres' life since !

Heading South Geez ?? Don't blame ya I'm orig from the Niagara Falls area, and it would have killed me years ago !
Today's paper lists the Penske Truck Rental top destinations. 1) Atlanta 2) Tampa bay area 3) Dallas /Ft. Worth 4) Orlando 5) Phoenix
Here in the N. Tampa area it's down to about 30 with heavy frost yesterday. It's nice to see it get below freezing at least once a year, just to kill off the bugs !!! (52 is the 'normal low' for today, 70 the high)
From what I've seen of N.Carolina, it's a pretty cool (hip) place ! Spent a little time north of Charlotte (Davison) (Don't miss Manifest Rec/CD shop in Charlotte)) and around the Chap Hill area. Great college area/downtown (lots of cool rec/cd shops). Possibly the best scenery in America too. I may just retire there myself. Many people here move to the Carolinas for a 'change of seasons' without the extremes . (But then again, it was 104 when I was there a couple years ago )
Cold weather ? All you have to do is dress right ! Does anybody make a NASA- style suit with a backpack heater ?? I want one !!
KEEP WARM PEOPLE !! (end of rant)

All of those buildings behind the stage area at Storybook Farm are rental apartments. Peter Renfro lived in one back when he started the festival. You could have ProgDay right out your back door

I agree snow sucks. I usually don't mind the cold, but I hate the snow.

This has been a brutal winter. Record low temperatures, ice storms, and a fair bit of snow so far. I measured the ice at the bottom of my driveway this morning and it is just over 3 inches thick. There is no way to remove it until it thaws. I just heard that the Ontario Provincial Police have closed about 160 KM of highway in Northern Ontario because of bad weather conditions. That's a lot of closed highway!

Here is a picture of my driveway ice, using my glove for perspective. Basically it's a full finger length thick. Spring cannot come soon enough.

It's going to be the snowiest January on record in Detroit. That's why I just arrived in California for a 10 day break. 70 degrees yessssss......

I don't mind the snow as much as I mind the idiots who don't know how to drive in it. Amazing how some of these buffoons think that their 4-wheel-drive SUV is any better on the ice that my two-wheel-drive Toyota with no snow tires.

Looks like more dreadful cold next week. They're calling for -13 on Monday and -12 on Tuesday in Western PA.

I don't mind having snow around. As long as it's just lying there on the ground and the shoveling is done. We really haven't had that much here in Vermont up to this point. Snow-blowing and shoveling have been minimal. We've had some rains and melting so it's down to less than 6 inches thick on our lawn. But winter isn't over yet.

I actually enjoy shoveling snow. Just like chopping fire wood, I find it invigorating. And, as weird as it may seem, you can get an instant sense of accomplishment when it's done.

Of course, I work from home, so it's not like I have to shovel it at 7:00 am before work every day.

I dread walking on icy sidewalks.Even with proper footware i walk like an old man, taking small steps, trying to be sure of my footing. I'm a big clumsy galoot and ever since i slipped on a patch of ice a couple of years ago and nearly cracked my noggin, i'm super cautious walking on ice/sleet.

90% of all the accidents I witness in the snow involve SUV's. It doesn't matter how many wheels are spinning when you're on ice.

3 years ago on Christmas day, I guy that I used to golf with slipped and fell on ice in his driveway. He was carrying a package in his arms so had nothing to break his fall. He hit his head, was in a coma for two weeks, and then died. A total freak accident, but just goes to show how dangerous ice can be.

I wouldn't mind it if I didn't have back issues where I'm feeling the effects of shoveling three days later. I'd rather go on a nice long walk to achieve an invigorated state.
