New Ian Anderson Album and Tour

New album called 'Homo Erraticus' and a tour featuring this album plus the best of Jethro Tull.

Anderson's clearly enjoying himself with all this pension age second wind... I'm still not sure if this is just a piss-take!

I doubt I'll see a show, but I'm looking forward to the album itself, as I always like JT/IA releases.

    So, it's a TAAB spinoff?

  4. #4
Yep, Ian apparently is going to milk that cow and then turn it into hamburger

I didn't get the idea that this was TAAB3 from the article. Other than mentioning that Gerald Bostock is involved in the lyrics I didn't see anything to suggest Anderson was still pushing TAAB. Anderson uses the Bostock persona to get away some fairly cheeky commentary as anyone who has read GB's diary will know.

Well, I think Ian is using a Gerald tie-in for anything he feels is prog related now. It's like his Marvel Universe.

^^ That's OK with me! I find the whole approach clever and amusing! I'm glad he still wants to write this kind of music! Now, if he would just let his rhythym section grow a pair, I'd be even happier!

I was very underwhelmed by TAAB2 and I really really wanted to like it. I've been a Jethro Tull fan since Benefit came out and want nothing more than to hear great music from Ian again, even if his voice is a shambles. I will for sure give this a shot, but hope for something better this time.

    Cool.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

I'm sure I'll pick this up, out of curiosity, but...TaaB2 was kind of lame and I don't know what to expect. The band is really bland these days.

I guess Ian is the new spokesman for men's health over 40? With the great success of the prostate exam from the TAAB2 tour he can follow up with a live colonoscopy. I'm starting to see a reoccurring theme with things getting shoved up the rectum.

How can anyone listen to his awful voice...He's done...Why can't he accept that....

I enjoyed TAAB2 for what it was...and I'm looking forward to hearing this whenever it lands in my hands

That looks like a Storm Thorgerson cover.

My guess is that it is one of the regular Kscope go-to artists. It has that kind of vibe to me, ala the No Man or Blackfield covers. I do see a bit of Thorgerson's style as well, sure.

Yep, it's Aleph Studio, responsible for all the Steven Wilson-related stuff as well as some Marillion covers (or at least, those recent re-releases of them).

He sounded okay on TAAB2...but live, yeah that's a whole 'nother story.

I said the same thing about TAAB2 that I did about Rush's Clockwork Angels -- my expectations for both bands have dropped quite low at this point in their careers, yet both released albums that were far better than I would have expected. Neither was great, but neither was awful either.
You say Mega Ultra Deluxe Special Limited Edition Extended Autographed 5-LP, 3-CD, 4-DVD, 2-BlueRay, 4-Cassette, five 8-Track, MP4 Download plus Demos, Outtakes, Booklet, T-Shirt and Guitar Pick Gold-Leafed Box Set Version like it's a bad thing...

The last IA/JT albums I enjoyed were Roots to Branches, J-Tull Dot Com and The Secret Language of Birds. Decent stuff, even with Ian's weakened vocal ability. Aqualung Live totally killed my interest in IA/JT...but...I did still pick up TaaB2. I've only heard it three times. On the third play, I felt a better about it but never came to like it. I try not to compare a current release against heyday releases but it's hard not to. I felt Taab2 had weak lyrics, tepid playing (not poor but mild without much fire) and there was some kitsch I just couldn't take. IA seems to jam too many words into a measure these days...not much subtlety.

That said, I'll hope for the best if I pick up the new release. You never know...

And, in any event, I own everything from This Was through Underwraps...so I can always here JT in its glory!

I've felt that way since Crest of a Knave, and while his voice is a disaster live I was happily shocked that he sounded so good on TAAB2...

And his use of a "mini-me" onstage to share the lead vocal duties made the TAAB2 tour a lot more listenable than it might have been otherwise.

Well I liked TAAB2 a lot, and I also thoroughly enjoyed the tour as well (I also enjoyed the last Jethro Tull gig I saw.) Yes, The Voice. It's been 'ropey' for decades now, but the show is always good and some songs he can sing a lot better than others. I'll also be getting this new album... And going to the gig later this year.
