    Gryphon Reunion tour 2014

I've only just heard about this, didn't see it in search results here on PE:

    http://www.gaudela.net/gryphon/

Did you see Gryphon on their last triumphant tour? Were you even born then? In response to over 195,000 hits on their website and a Facebook-driven clamour for a follow-up, the indescribable mediaeval folk and prog rock heroes of the 1970s are picking up their crumhorns, guitars and things that look like old bits of plumbing and setting out to do it all over again. After the one-off sell-out concert at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall in 2009, Gryphon flies again in 2014 for a short U.K tour of clubs, arts centres and festivals. Miraculously, they're all still playing regularly - and they've learnt a trick or two since they last hit the road. Stand by for dazzling, unpredictable, good-humoured performances, new songs and old favourites, and a unique brand of virtuoso musicianship that's still as weird and wonderful as it was all those years ago.

    Dates and venues to follow.

Thanks for this most excellent news. I would hope there might be enough interest for a U.S. tour.

Not a huge fan, but that's cool. I'd plunk down real folding money for a live disc.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.

I don't see anything that gives the names of current members. The 2008 entry does mention 4 original members, but that was 5+ years ago, and the photo shows 6 guys...

There are a few BBC sessions....

I'd rather see them live (either in Benelux, France or UK)
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

Agreed, we have heard this before. Hope they solidify dates... and if they do another reunion gig, please film it so most of the fans worldwide can enjoy.

I'm really saddened by such prognosis. Hoped for better news. Seems the idea of a brief reunion is buried. Something's always goes wrong with all attempts of reminding.

How about a package US tour with Horslips and either Fairport or Steeleye?

A band not touring playing a festival that doesn't exist, sounds a perfect fit.

I guess for Gryphon that's comparatively recent
Still, does not bode well. If a "2014 tour" is going to happen there's only 5 months left....

Red Queen is generally considered their best.

Graeme Taylor seems to be the driving force behind this. His webpage now says the tour will be in 2015: http://www.graemetaylor.com/

It is obvious that forum members are not aware of a very serious accident that Graeme was involved in at a festival last year where he sustained a bad fracture to his leg which has not healed and he continues to have surgery on it. Add to this that he is apparently a haemophiliac and this would perhaps be behind the delay.

I saw the wonderful ‘Home Service’ play recently without Graeme and the medical history was relayed at that gig. As a fan of both ‘Gryphon’ and ‘Home Service’ I wish Graeme all the best for a very speedy recovery and a return to touring duty! (I have to say that Home Service were still fantastic with keyboards and sax taking some of his solo lines).

"Red Queen to Gryphon Three" is the most progressive (instrumental), and a fantastic album.

The debut is much more purley folk.

All their Albums can be recommended.

For "symph prog" with obvious medieval folk elements - Red Queen to Gryphon Three
For goofy'n'spoofy medieval folk and/or early musics with the distant odd "rock" element - Gryphon
For a straighter take on "prog" (with certain folky bits) - Raindance
"Improvisation is not an excuse for musical laziness" - Fred Frith
"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
