We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973
An old thread so not sure if I already replied in here somewhere, but any cover that Humble Pie did always bore very little resemblance to the original, usually they covered a blues or soul/r&b number.

He did a lot of unusual cover versions. How could they not be considering how unusual he was.
The song start at about 1:14...but it's a truly creepy version of the Carpenters Close to You done by Josefine Cronholm for the movie MirrorMask
"So it goes."
-Kurt Vonnegut
MirrorMask is a weird movie on sooooo many levels...
Cobra handling and cocaine use are a bad mix.

Bryan Ferry "these foolish things" is a bit strange...
Still alive and well...
I remember back in the early 90's seeing Ferry on The Tonight Show, I think, right after Jay Leno took over. He did two songs, very different from the original versions: I Put A Spell On You and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow. And on both songs, he had Robin Trower sitting in on guitar. AWESOME!!!!

Betty Everett is the original artist for that Linda Ronstadt tune.
Thank you for reminding me of just how much I hate Lorde's voice...

there was a guy on liquid metal talking about how this came about. the cover was going to actually be called Summer Girl and was supposed to be rather x rated. they sent a copy to seals and crofts for their blessings, which they did not get in no uncertain terms. since one can do a straight up cover with no problems and altering the song causes tons of problems without permission (I am not sure how that works and am only going based on this interview), the song was rerecorded with the seals and crofts lyrics, although some "summer girl" recording had been distributed and pop up now and then.
"Alienated-so alien I go!"
