I recommend it to everyone. Went to the album launch party last weekend, and they played 3 songs from the album at the evening gig. Awesome, with a very large capital A.

Should be an amazing album if The Lizard King and Pearl are anything to go by. Just watched The Gathering DVD last night in anticipation of their new release.

I think it's their best yet and every track is a real gem. The 5.1 mix is also superb. imho Rob is easily as good as SW at surround mixes and this one really stands out.

I was the support act at that gig - they were brilliant.

I didn't bother with "Chameleon", as I heard it was a less proggy affair. If this really is a return to form, I'll have to add it to the list, which is growing day by day.

Do not hesitate. This album is simply spectacular. A true return to form. Bound for 2013 Top 10.

I just got this and I'm absolutely loving it Listening to it for the second time as I'm typing this. So far, my favorite tracks are "The Lizard King", "Ladyland Blues", and "Pearl". Magenta have become my favorite of the current crop of prog bands. IMO, they don't have a weak recording in their catalog and this is another strong entry.

    Agreed!

Well I loved Chameleon too, so I cannot really say this is a return to form, because they have never dipped in quality to me, this is yet another wonderful release from my very good friends and my very favourite musicians.

I was at The Borderline gig a few weeks ago and it was captivating, the new songs, especially Pearl moved me completely.

"Pearl" is beautifully sung with a couple of wonderful guitar solos - it is the most accessible song on the album. It is the song I would play any non-Prog friend.

My favourite is "The Devil at the Crossroads" which takes a bit more work to "get".

Magenta has become one of the best live bands around. I wonder how good they would be if they got to play more frequently. By my count, they have played 5 gigs so far this year with two more to go (in Belgium and The Netherlands).

I'd echo what Tony said about Matt's playing. And it was great to see him and Chris do those couple of songs. There is a youtube clip someone if anyone is interested.

As for Chameleon, my view is that this is good as any other Magenta release. It has a feeling of "The Singles", I suppose because the songs are generally shorter and simpler. It'll be interesting to see what they do next. It seems to me that every album has a completely different feel to the previous one.

Great album! Will make my top 10 list for sure. I hope that they are being considered for the '14 RoSfest.

Glad I'm not the only one! I put off getting it for ages, but was then surprised how much I liked it. I actually enjoy Magenta doing shorter songs, and I preferred 'Chameleon' to some of their more epic-laden albums.

"Chameleon" failed to click for me until I heard some of the material live on the most recent double live disc (whose title eludes me). When I subsequently revisited the studio disc, I "got it."

Feel very fortunate to have experienced the band live at the last FMPM. That show made my wife a huge fan as well.

Hi Rick, are you referring to "On our way to who knows where"?

Had my first listen to this yesterday - very impressed! All at the usual standard, and there are some excellent guitar solos that grabbed me by the ear right away. Definitely a good release for Magenta (just for the record, I've been a Rob Reed fan since the early Cyan days).

The lyrics are dense and in tiny print, so can I get some help at identifying the person each track is about?

The Lizard King - Jim Morrison
    Ladyland Blues - Hendrix
    Pearl - Janis Joplin?
    Stoned - Kurt Cobain?
    The Gift - ?
The Devil at the Crossroads - ? (the lyrics are WAY too tiny for this one - are they kidding? It's like Microfiche!)

Maybe this was discussed upthread - if so, sorry!
