Favorite hooky/pop-like chorus in a rock song

    A few favorites:

Rush - Distant Early Warning (the world weighs on my shoulders......)

Styx - Fooling Yourself (get up, get back on your feet.....)

Mastodon - Oblivion (falling from grace 'cause I've been away too long....)

What are some of your favorites?

Don't know how were defining "pop-like" or "rock song", but here's a few I'd venture forth:

    The Producers: She Sheila
The Rolling Stones: Get Off Of My Cloud
Journey: Any Way You Want It
Kiss: Talk To Me (and pretty much everything else on Unmasked, other than Shandi)
    Kiss: Do You Love Me
    The Who: I Can't Explain
    Rainbow: Power
Russ Ballard: Since You Been Gone
Night Ranger: When You Close Your Eyes
Night Ranger: (You Can Still) Rock In America
    Y&T: Keep On Runnin'

People can say what they like about KISS and whether they could play and whether Gene could sing and blah blah blah but come on... the guys were hook monsters. Just about every song had a catchy chorus. "Christine! Sixteen!" "They call me (Dr. Love!)" "I- wanna rock and roll all night... and party every day!" "I! Wanna hear it loud! Right between the eyes!!"

    They did tons of them...

Great call on She Sheila too... they had tons of them- What's He Got, I Love Lucy, Merry-Go-Round...

    Yes - The Calling
"The world will soon be right again,
Innocence and undying love will reign."

The Raspberries - Go All The Way

I have always LOVED the guitar hook in "Love Will Find a Way" by Yes. To the point that even with my rudimentary guitar skills, I was bound and determined to learn it.

'Love Will Find a Way' also has a super hook-y chorus.

Diamonds Aren't So Hard, from the Bankstatement album has a great pop chorus, as does:

Seth Swirsky - Edinburgh, Ordinary Man, Distracted
The Explorers' Club - Hold Me Tight
Prefab Sprout - Hey Manhattan, Bonny, All The World Loves Lovers
Fleetwood Mac (Welch era) - Angel
Beach Boys - That's Why God Made The Radio
Apples In Stereo - No One In The World

My favorite hook song of all time (the entire song is one massive hook) is Sixpence None the Richer's version of "There She Goes", originally by The La's. Not a rock song but I mention it because the entire song is sinfully addictive. Listen to it once and it sticks with me for hours, haunting me all day - sometimes a week.

Warning: Play at Your Own Risk

A close runner-up is the chorus in a punk song by Rancid called "Ruby Soho". That chorus gets stuck in my head quite a bit.

The oddest one is the studio version of "Letter Never Sent" by R.E.M., because it has some great hooks in the song between the music and especially the haunting vocal melody and harmony lines yet I cant hardly understand anything that Michael Stipe is mumbling about

    Great examples so far!

A few that I would like to add:
    - Porcupine Tree - Drawing the Line

    - XTC - Senses Working Overtime (just one example, as I could go on forever with XTC)

“When melody and words are free
And consumers are singing in harmony
They will bow to the ground
    Of the glitterest sound
    And the bells will ring
    As the populace sing
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
All praise that the greatest man who ever walked on the earth
    Is still around”

Abigail's Ghost- (virtually everything on Selling Insincerity)
    IQ- Came Down
Marillion- Power (slightly different lyrics each time the chorus rolls around, though it remains the same musically)

    Too many others to mention.

I was just reminded of this this past week! Irresistible, ain’t it?

Reminds me of these (Cancon was rife with this kind of stuff):

One of my favorite newer hard rock bands is The Vintage Caravan. Great hooks, melodies and some proggy touches. I love the chorus on this one. Catchy as hell...

Classic little story-telling video too! Sounds good, rockin' guitar solo!
