Discipline - Chaos Out Of Order 2013 rerelease

    From the band's website:

"Discipline. Chaos Out of Order, 25th Anniversary Reissue (1988-2013)

    Running Time: 53 minutes

    1.Man & the Locust parts 1 and 2 - 8 minutes, 40 seconds
    2.Still Night – 3 minutes, 32 seconds
3.Trying to Catch My Senses – 1 minute, 56 seconds
    4.Uphill Climb – 4 minutes, 41 seconds
    5.Man in Transition – 4 minutes, 3 seconds
    6.The Conscious Slumber – 1 minute, 43 seconds
    7.Mickey Mouse Man – 4 minutes, 24 seconds
    8.Interlude – 4 minutes, 43 seconds
    9.Wrists – 9 minutes, 30 seconds
    10.Peacemaker (1987) – 9 minutes, 56 seconds

Discipline’s first full length release, “Chaos Out of Order” (1988) was the only concept album recorded by the Detroit area band. This twenty-five year anniversary reissue includes the original songs and an extra track recorded by the same lineup in 1987."

Didn't even know such a creature existed. Anyone know if this re-issue is in addition to the previously announced new CD, or are they the same thing?

Apparently those are two different projects: the band's home page states that they are working on a new album as well as reissues of their early recordings.

I would still love a remix of "Unfolded". The original is rather muddy to my ears. That album could use a much brighter, dynamic mix.

Weird that I've never heard of this album. I didn't know there was an album before Push & Profit. Looks like you can already download it.

Anyone who has heard this, care to comment on the music? I do like Push and Profit, so I'll likely give this a shot. And of course I'm looking forward to more new music. The recent album was a great comeback.

I don't know this for sure, but I think this album was a cassette only release way back in the day. If I remember correctly Discipline had 2 albums that were released on cassette prior to "Push And Profit" being their debut on CD. I know that I have seen them play several of the songs from this live ("Wrists" and "Micky Mouse Man" for sure), but other than live versions I don't believe any of these songs have ever been released on CD.

and this time the got me by surprise.

Yuuppie. Of course it will take (felt) ages before this one will appear on my side of the big pond.

Sorry, but(to me) brighter and Discipline are not two words that go together. I like my Discipline dark and muddy.

I couldn't agree more. The darker the better. And I didn't know there was anything before Push and Profit. This band is the definition of "Autobuy" for me.

Nothing can save the way the drums were recorded. It is still one of the greatest albums ever made. All about da tunes my brother, and that one's got 'em!

I'm psyched about this release too. I've head Micky Mouse Man and I think Wrists. I didn't think Matthew was interested in releasing this, but really happy he decided to. Already ordered through Amazon. CDBaby only has downloads.

Wasn't this their "demo album"? I think I've seen it mentioned at aleast a couple of times, and it's good to know it's being released - although I never really thought too much about Push & Profit.

I have to say, I listened to the samples on Amazon and didn't think much of them. The last two tracks seemed promising, but it really sounds like a young, inexperienced band still finding themselves. Of course I guess that is to be expected as they really were young and inexperienced as a band in 1988. Granted, you can't really form an opinion based on 30 second samples, but I think I was expected something better than I heard. Of course I could just buy those last two songs, sometimes it's nice having an option like that.

I believe the liner notes to Unfolded mention their debt to Anekdoten's J. E. Liljeström as having "introduced them to the music of Peter Hammill", this after 'doten/Discipline did a few gigs together in '95 or '96. Anyway it's quite obvious that they haven't really taken on to more challenging inputs on Push & Profit, although there are definitely good things there as well. I just find it somewhat uneven as a whole.

The samples on Amazon do sound pretty raw. But, I'm going to order nonetheless. I have everything else that they've released, including all of the live performances on the two ProgDay CD releases.

I continue to think that these guys should have been huge if prog had been more marketable in the early 90s. They're all incredibly talented. I'm also looking forward to their new studio album and Matthew's new solo project (both noted on their website as in the works).
