Thread: What is it about "Steve H"?

What is it about "Steve H"?

That is -- why are there so many seriously good musicians (mostly guitarists) named Steve H?

Hackett, Howe, Hunter, Hillage, Hogarth, Harley...

There's a bit of an uncanny pattern here.

Steve Hogarth is a musician? I thought he only sang.

Anyway, I thought there was another but I'm drawing a blank. Obviously Steve Rothery and Steve Morse don't qualify (unfortunately).

H plays guitar and keys. Isn't a lead vocalist a musician too?
What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound (2112)

Maybe but I never thought of James LaBrie as a musician.

I have an excellent album of Duke Ellington tunes arranged for acoustic guitar by Steve Hancoff. It came out on Robert Fripp's DGM label about 20 years ago. I even got to see the guy at McCabe's in Santa Monica. He definitely deserves a spot in the "Steve H" club.

Steve Hunt played with Allan Holdsworth, Stanley Clarke and Randy Roos, to name a few.

Hogarth is a pretty solid keyboard player. He typically plays quite a bit of piano in the band's live shows. He is also a decent guitarist.

Okay, we're losing the thread a bit here... I'm talking about good/important musicians named Steve H. (I'm pretty sure there's still at least one that I'm just not thinking of and nobody has named.)

Well, there was Steve Hughes (different Steve Hughes than the one mentioned in #13). He's a multi-instrumentalist who did some solo albums and was also a former member of Big Big Train. https://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=9363

    Stephen Hawking.

Well, he's a better vocalist than Roger Waters anyway...

Not to mention dead. But then, I suppose a dead guy might well be a better vocalist than Roger these days. He sounds like Leonard Cohen with a mouth full of cotton.
