With you 100% Robin, though I will still go to sporting events on a limited basis as I do enjoy it. The Bengals and Reds have been fun for the last few years. Fortunately it's usually just me and the wife. I particularly enjoy minor league baseball & ice hockey. Great fun and much more affordable.

Yeah, I like minor league sports better on many levels. Maybe because the players have incentive to do their best. For me most sports are ruined because of the high salaries. They're making millions right out of the gate as soon as they hit the major leagues - most of them play like who cares, I'm rich, don't hurt me and ruin my pretty face. Also, the food is both better and cheaper at minor league stadiums. But I'm at the been there, done that stage of my life when it comes to a lot of stuff now, music excluded. With sports in particular I'd rather curl up on my sofa in my pajamas and watch it on TV and not have to listen to idiot fans screaming obscenities or have beer spilled on me.

In '95 I saw the Ian Anderson solo tour and King Crimson back to back. I remember being astounded at how quiet and well behaved the Crim crowd was in comparison to the previous evening's incessant WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AQUALUUUUUUUUUUUUUNG WOOOOOOOO LOCOMOOOOTIVE BREATH TULLL WOOOOO!!!.

At the show @ the Nokia; there was an individual who was sooooooooo bombed that said individual made many loud requests (inc. songs not by KC), fell down the stairs, managed to get more beer somehow, threw up on the way back and was eventually escorted out halfway through.

Also Eric Slick was three rows in front of me and was bothered more than a few times by a 'very excitable' young lady who kept loudly stating to any who would pay attention to her <paraphrasing now> "THAT'S ADRIAN'S DRUMMER!!! THAT'S ERIC SLICK" et al.

^ Dude, that sucks. I expect that kind of shit when I got to a concert show, but not a theater show. When I saw UK last year in PHX, some dick kept whistling as loud as he fuckin' could. What was he hoping to accomplish? "Look! Did you see that! Eddie Jobson looked at me! And he wants to kick my teeth in! I'm awesome!"
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.

I still had a great time though! I was with my prior band mates (we always see KC together) and the wife (her 5th Crimso show).
    Its NYC...par for the course...

Fripp only plays churchs these days. Due to idiot audients who chat and take cellphone pics. Hope people behave properly and LISTEN. (and STFU)

There was a point in Guitar Craft where my absolute hatred of some audients came up (like those here have mentioned, can. not. stand. it.) and i brought up the question to Fripp of whether he/they preferred raucous crowds or ones that would sit and actively listen...he, as is his typical wont, seemed to brush off the remark and defer it to the group as a whole; all of whom seemed to be on the same page as a remark that went something like, "the relationship between an audience and the performer/s is/are not a one way street/s".

i still hate crowds though. At the Nokia show some college kids were in front of me and this one guy was like during RF's introductory soundscaping, "are you going to TALK the whole show?" and they shut up.

No, unless you're someone like Bryce Harper, MLB teams use the salary arbitration system to keep rookie salaries down. Just ask Mike Trout, he had one of the best rookie seasons ever and the Angels "rewarded" him by giving him $510,000 for 2013. He's not eligible for arbitration until 2015 and free agency until 2018 (!!). Another excellent young player on the Angels is Mark Trumbo, who makes....$540,000/year, he's one year ahead of Trout in terms of arbitration and free agency. For every Bryce Harper who cashed in, there's 10 Mike Trout's who have to make far less than some of their teammates.
    - most of them play like who cares, I'm rich, don't hurt me and ruin my pretty face
Oh please. The average MLB player has a five year career, with one in five position players lasting less than a year. They have a very short window in which to earn money at something they've worked their asses off learning since they were young kids, they earn it because you or me or anyone else on this board can't do what they do.

Funny how people like you or my mom think pro athletes are overpaid, but no one blinks an eye when a mediocre band who made their last good album 25 years ago like U2 or *shudder* Madonna *shudder* make $2-300 million a year touring baseball and football stadiums.

There's probably a 100 people on this board that can play better than The Edge or the truly mediocre Larry Mullen or Adam Clayton and the less said about Madonna's musical abilities, the better. What I love about sports is that it's a meritocracy, not someone like Justin Bieber making something like $55 million last year alone.

Oh, I blink and shudder just thinking of U2 and Madonna. Even I play guitar better than the Edge. And I suck.

And I disagree - you are talking about baseball and one guy. The salaries for most of these players in all major sports are obscene. It's a fucking game for God sakes.

But - that being said - I am not a flamer and don't want to come across like Queen Bitch arguing with you. Besides, I love your screen name. (Unless that's really your name - then I love your Mom for naming you that. Have a soft spot for ELP - I went into labor with Julie listening to Take a Pebble)

For "most of these players", I'm sorry, you're uniformed. For every guy like Albert Pujols or Kobe Bryant or Peyton Manning, there's 10 guys who play a handful of games and never are heard from again, they're "washed up" at the age of 23. It's especially an issue in the NFL, with its career-ending injuries and comparatively low salaries for non-first round picks/non-superstars.

"It's a fucking game"? Really? What is any rock band doing but playing simplistic music that's riddled with cliches that thousands upon thousands of people could do? How many people here could hit a 95 mph fastball consistently or throw a 30-yard out pattern with a 6'6" 350 pound defensive tackle trying to tear your head off? Hint: zero. How many people could string a few chords together, add some beats and a vocal and call it "music"? If you go by what's on YouTube, plenty of people.

What about "actors" like Ashton Kutcher? For appearing on the hideously bad Two and a Half Men, he raked in something like $24 million in 2012 (the most recent figure I could find). Not many people on this planet can play goaltender in the NHL, I get served dinner all the time in restaurants by actor/model/waiters who could do what Kutcher does.

Mom, is that you? Because your statements sound exactly like her.

I'll bet if all people were taught from age three to play baseball and play a musical instrument and write music, there would be more excellent baseball players than excellent musicians who could compose music of worth.

BTW is Jeremy Bender also Scrotum Scissor?

Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Kind of like the cult of people who meet online to discuss an interest shared by a comparative few other people worldwide ?

A cult is a group 'blindly' following a leader.

The Crafties are a group of people trying their best to be awake and alive in the moment, relating to music as an object activity. It could just as well be the League of Crafty Gardeners. It's hard to do two things at once, but we live in the world and we also want to be free, so you work with the situation at hand, and with the mind and body you have.

Have you ever followed a leader ? Does that make you a cultist ? Did that leader suggest that you think for yourself and come to your own conclusion about the matter? That's not a Cult leader, that's a Leader leader, honestly and genuinely offering to share what he's learned with those eager and willing to learn, and yet encouraging you to use your own critical thinking and judgement to test the truth of it for yourself.

IMO lack of awareness of the present moment by musicians composing and playing music, and lack of awareness by the audience receiving it leave music a vapid, empty affair. Ever been to a show where most of the audience talked through the entire show ? Or a show where a band offered up a canned repetition of a musical 'product' that was devoid of inspiration and the spirit of music ?

What the Crafties are trying to do is a good thing for people in general and the planet. It is too cheap and easy to slag off on a genuine attempt to improve the human condition by pulling the 'cult' card.

I know one thing about Fripp and the Crafties: they deliver a unique aesthetic experience. Yes, it can get really artsy, but for some people that isn't a barrier, but an attraction.

I will be there. Birthday present to myself. Going with a buddy of mine since my wife refuses. I took her to see the League years ago and she made me leave during their sixth encore. She thought it was narcissistic indulgence, I thought it was pure appreciation. Saw the Guitar Trio on Friday - great as always and I always enjoy hearing Paul Richards' Fripp stories.
