He's an American Idol winner originally. But, don't hold that against him. Check out some youtube footage of him playing with Queen a few years ago. He really nails it.

Actually I don't think he won. He made it to the finals, but someone else beat him out if I remember correctly. There is no doubt Lambert is a talented guy, and everyone I know who have seen this iteration of Queen has loved the show.

What? No tribute band singer from youtube?

Didn't they make an album with Adam singing?

Isn't Adele also one of those talent show winners? I guess they ARE like brother and sister!

He's fantastic! I saw them last year, and it was definitely one of the best concerts I've ever seen. He even admits on stage, he's not Freddie, but he does a great job of honoring Freddie's memory.

In the above screen capture from youtube, he looks like the Burger King in his pajamas.

He's trying to fill shoes that are impossible to fill. I guess you've got to give him some slack. I'm not too crazy over that outfit myself.

He's not trying to fill Freddie's shoes. He's helping Brian and Roger keep the Queen music alive for the fans to enjoy. That's good enough for me. Trust me, he does a great job. He's certainly better than Mr Feel Like Making Love was.

Well he's in Freddy's shoes. The outfit doesn't bother me, it's all in the power of his voice. And I don't think he has it. But maybe when you're there, in the moment.

I much prefer Marc Martel by a HUGE margin. I have zero understanding of why they didn't go with him. They chose him to do fill-in vocals for the movie.

No, I don't believe that they have. I don't think they've even released any official live album or DVD with him.

No, Jed. Adele wasn't a talent show winner.

Because Martel is basically a Freddie imitation, and they didn't want that. And it's a smart move, IMO. Martel is great, but he'll forever be looked at as a Freddie imitator.

I must have had it confused with the fact that she won the BBC Sound of 2008 poll before having released anything. (Google is my friend.)

RE the video with Adam Lambert posted above, "We Will Rock You" is probably the worst song by which to judge him. I looked on YouTube for something that'd be a better example, but I couldn't find anything where you can hear him over the crowd's singing.

You mean like when Arnel Pineda took over for Steve Perry in Journey, it was a bad move because.... um, oh, because he sounded just like Steve Perry? Yeah, that was a bad move because they needed to buy new tour buses and stage sets. I think that happened to Kansas as well when they hired Ronnie Platt to replace Steve Walsh.

Really, I can't find a single negative about hiring Mark Martel to front Queen, other than maybe he's not gay enough. I'm sure if they were replacing Brain May instead, the guitarist better well sound just like Brian May.

But that's not even my beef so much with Lambert, that his voice isn't an exact match... I don't think he has the rock attitude, and strength in his voice needed to deliver those songs. He sounds like "High School Musical", to me.

After seeing Martel at Progtoberfest I agree the guy is amazing, and would make a great front man for Queen.

I'm not even going to dignify that statement by responding to it.

And exactly what constitutes "rock attitude"?

As far the strength of his voice, I can once again assure that he had no trouble delivering the goods when I saw them perform.
