my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

"Alienated-so alien I go!"
A poorly researched piece for your enjoyment. Seems like anyone can write for Salon!:

rcarlberg, you'll particularly enjoy this piece on collecting cassettes:

The first few sentences cracked me up:
When I told my parents I was writing about cassette tapes they actually laughed at me. My dad is always very calm so his jokes tend to land hard: “I can go out to the garage and dig up your old Raffi tapes – you could write about that.”
BTW, the other day I found a cassette in my basement - Tomita's "Snowflakes Are Dancing" - and put it in my pocket thinking maybe I can gift it to someone. But when I opened the case, one of those little felt pads dropped right out. That kind of stuff is the real physical weak point of cassettes, at least ones left long unplayed.
60 minute or 90 minute cassette tape length. That’s the important question.
