    Hugh Hefner Dies at 91

    http://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainme...tanntp&ffid=gz

**“Hugh M. Hefner, the American icon who in 1953 introduced the world to Playboy magazine and built the company into one of the most recognizable American global brands in history, peacefully passed away today from natural causes at his home, The Playboy Mansion, surrounded by loved ones,” a rep for the Playboy Enterprises founder said in a statement.**

Thank you & rest in peace.

    RIP, Hugh

Although I wouldn't name him as a flag bearer, his general stance on open sexuality made him a figure of counter-Culture

    ===================

BTW, how many of these private concerts did he organize/fost?? There is the Purple one, now Mac, but I suppose he didn't stop at those two

Edit: never mind, I found the answer

Hugh Hefner probably did more to shape American culture than any other figure in 100 years. With my right hand I salute you!

The song Fleetwood Mac chose to play was the perfect choice!

Playboy also had a record label, and even released a Prog-Rock album. Well, half of one, anyway.

It's all Hefner's fault I am the way I am. Thank you, sir.

    RIP

His name for me is always connected with the song "Hefner And Disney" by T Bone Burnett from his "Proof Through The Night", featuring musicians like Jerry Marotta, Mick Ronson, Pete Townshend, Richard Thompson and Ry Cooder.

Great album, released on CD by Rhino in 2007 together with "Trap Door" and "Behind The Trapdoor"

For some reason I had to re-start reading this sentence a few times, because I was trying to figure out why Hugh Hefner had a name for you.

Yeah, maybe I should have put it differently. Googling my first name with Hefner's might suggest I'm one of his playboy models...

I was going to post that exact thing. I saw that when I was 12 or 13 and it was one of the first 'underground rock' things I saw and it blew my mind!

Cool, never knew that (I guess this was a USA-only show...). Here's another one:

There are pioneers in all things across the landscape, and he was definitely one of them. RIP to someone who didn't have to think "I wish I'd....." at the end.

RIP Hef, thanks for all the tan lines. And yes, the articles, the fiction, the great interviews, and some guffaw worthy cartoons. Here's an article on Hef in his late 80s from Esquire

    RIP Hef

Pretty good newer documentary-like series on Amazon Prime covering Hef's life and the empire he built. Recommended if you're into such things.
