Bruford Band Box- "Seems Like a Lifetime Ago"

The Bruf (his FB page) posted that a boxset of the late 70's Bruford band is in preparation for an Autumn release. Hope there might be something unreleased on it.

Wow. Fingers crossed for a lot of live and unreleased... Though I doubt there is a lot of the latter in existence. Everybody's got all the studio albums already, right? So no need to put those in a box.

I don't have any of them, so definitely interested in this.

There are hours of unreleased demos - NYC 1975 with Berlin and Ray Gomez, 1977 with Holdsworth, Stewart & Murray, 1978 "garage demos" with just Stewart and Bruford & Feb 1980 demos (material for never made 4th album, with BB, Stewart & Clark)... Plenty to choose from - if the tapes survive !

Great news! I love the Bruford LPs and we'll see how unreleased & live material they will include on the forthcoming box set

In 1980, Bruford and Berlin played with Boston-based guitarists Randy Roos and Mick Goodrick. It would be nice if there were recordings of that.

^^^ Yeah, I had read somewhere, maybe on Roos' website, that he had subbed for either Clark or Holdsworth for a few dates on one of the Bruford US tours. Always amazes me how these musicians can learn an entire show's worth of material at a moment's notice.

    this could be great
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Wasn't there some recording sessions with Bruford, Berlin and Ray Gomez?

As far as I know, this was for one clinic (maybe more), not actual Bruford band shows, so this didn't involve learning the band's entire repertoire - although that's a feat John Clark had to accomplish when Holdsworth left only a couple of weeks before a European tour.

Yes, they recorded demos at NYC's Record Plant in April 1975. But the material they worked on was ideas by Berlin and Gomez rather than Bruford's own compositions, so I'm not sure they would be a candidate for inclusion.

Imagine 5.1s of Feels Good to Me and One of a Kind.
Probably too much to hope for.

A while back, Bruford talked about the 4th album demos as something that might get released, so that seems like a possibility. I hope this is a box set focused on previously unreleased material, and not one of those all-too-common boxsets where it's 14 versions of the albums you already have and one bonus CD of unreleased material.

I broke down and got the UK boxset and it's great... but there are multiple discs I'm never going to touch.

    Ditto. I'm cautiously interested.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

4th lp demos? Never heard of that. Was it scuttled because BB joined the re-formed KC or was the band dropped from the label?

Bruford was told the band couldn't continue, it was losing too much money.

When interviewed in late 1980, Bruford was still hoping to make another album, but the KC "reunion" offer took precedence.

Bruford offered some material of his own (not sure if this included some of the Bruford band ideas) to Fripp, who turned them down - which he took as meaning that his compositional input wouldn't be required, so from that point he abstained.
