    Mastodon TV appearance

I am still looking forward to hearing Mastodon's new album, which I will have to order one of these days because we have no record stores here. Meanwhile, I noticed in an online TV schedule that Mastodon is the musical guest on tonight's (Monday, 3 April) Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC.
We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973

That's a good opening line for a novel or short story!

I have tried with these guys. No doubt they are great at what they do, but for some reason it does not click with me.

I know what you mean, they're kind of exhausting to listen too. The first two songs on The Hunter are great and very Rush like IMO. If they would take more of that approach I'd be happy.

The haven't matched the level of "Crack the Skye" for me. That album is awesome.

I haven't heard the new one yet, but I can say one thing about it: that's got to be their worst album cover art yet.

I went to the Mastodon show at the Hollywood Palladium (great venue) last Thursday. They were amazing, put on a great show both musically and visually. The focus was on the new album, which is a little more straight forward rock stuff, but there was a LOT of notes played. A LOT. 22 songs in a little over 90 minutes, no 18 minute epics for these guys. I think that's why they "work" for me: the music is in constant flux, there'll be a blizzard of notes and then a hard rocking riff and more note blizzards, but it's all 3-5 minute songs so they don't overstay their welcome.

I was really blown away by Brann Dailor's drumming, he just kicked ass. They got a great reception, as well they should have.
    ...or you could love
