Genesis for Varying Amounts of Grand Pianos

    Any fans of...

    Genesis for Two Grand Pianos?

    David Myers (Plays Genesis)?

    The Genesis Piano Project?

Truth be told, I prefer some of these arrangements to the originals.

Huge fan of these! I agree that the arrangements are exceptional though I don't actually prefer them to the originals. That said, these gents have succeeded in capturing the essence of what makes Genesis music so emotionally satisfying.... and, indeed, timeless.

Bought all of David Myers' arrangements from his website... Really like them. Some are really outstanding arrangements and performances, very faithful to the original harmonies while remarkably retaining much of the "rock" energy of the more energetic passages. There are quite a few videos available of DM performing this stuff which those interested should definitely check out !

(The one classic era piece I wish he'd cover but hasn't is "Ripples")

Here's Genesis Piano Project doing Ripples

I agree with you though that I'd love to hear what David Myers could do with that song.

My favorite of the David Myers stuff is when his arrangement allows the piece to "breathe". I'm thinking particularly about "Dusk" or "Undertow" or "After the Ordeal". I'd like a nice slooow version of Ripples.

I bought Genesis for Two Grand Pianos ten years ago and didn't get into it at the time so gave it away since liked the originals much more. I did think it was well done, though.

Amazing stuff. Evidence that we aren't simply corporeal beings.

    Amazing.

But where is the invisible touch version ????? How can it be that there are lots of interesting musicians inspired by the music of Genesis and not a single one selects anything from the post Hackett "and then there was shit" era?

When is the musical box going to perform their incredible versions of "in too deep"? These are burning questions

I mean, millions and millions of people bought the invisible touch record. You would think the musical box would be able to capitalize on this 30 years later .

^As ever, a shining beacon of positivity.

The chord progressions and melodies in Genesis' work are always exquisite so it's unsurprising they would translate well to this stripped-down format.

'Ripples' is probably my favourite piece of music they ever recorded, that ethereal instrumental mid-section in particular which I would say is the best example of them working as a group- far from the usual cliched 'prog noodling' insult, it's tasteful ensemble playing. It really works well with the two piano players here.
