I still need to pick up the second one. Didn't he take a different approach compared to Oldfield in revisiting his most famous work?

Whereas Oldfield redid the original piece but used modern instruments and recording tools; Jarre wrote new songs but recorded them using the original keyboards and recording tools.

I like it, it's nowhere near as good as Equinoxe or Oxygene, & I'd say it's a step down from Oxygene 2, but I hold all those three in very high regard. Only 2 listens in so far but I think it'll get plenty of play.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

I wasn't aware it was already released...
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Didn't even realize he was making a third one. I bought the re-recorded version back in 2008 and really liked it. I'll probably pick this one up too.

The album preview didn't impress me. I'll definitely check out that vinyl upload, though!

Well, I just got the Oxygene Trilogy Box on vinyl and what a beauty it is! Way to early for a review of the new album, but so far I think that this is JMJ's best since Chronologie (1993). I quite like it, but it's a bit too 'dancey' for me with all these uptempo rhythms. I still highly prefer the first part over the next two..but hey, it's great that JMJ is still producing albums..

Sorry to have to say it, but Oxygene 3 is a disappointment. The opening is cool, but the bulk of the album is nothing special.

It's not really sticking with me either to be honest.

Ugh, should have picked it up for Xmas... Amazon came through.

I like it a lot. Reminds me of Tangerine Dream's Exit, has a good vibe, a little on the dark side yet still symphonic. Keeper!

    I wonder if he'll do Oxygene 4 in 2037?

On the 3rd one he used a combination of digital and analog equipment.

I'm really liking the new album and have been playing it a LOT. Really like the way he mixes the older sound with the new.

What I heard of it, doesn't sound as nice as the first 2 Oxygene albums. Though it is more interesting than the title-track of Waiting for Cousteau.
I'll buy it, if I see it for the right price.

I didn't know there was an Oxygene 2.... Does the law of diminishing returns apply here?

Oxygene 2 was released in the US as Oxygene 7-13. It features even more mellotron than the first Oxygene album, and sounds good to these ears. I have yet to hear Oxygene 3. I will definitely check it out.

Funnily enough I absolutely love the title-track of Waiting for Cousteau.. A really nice ambient track. I do find Oxygene 3 really boring though, I must confess.

Is Jarre's "Oxygene" akin to Oldfield's "Tubular Bells"? They cannot leave it alone, they have to keep tinkering... (Plus the possible cash cow)
I've got a bike you can ride it if you like

I would guess it's the latter, Casey.

For me personally, it's as inoffensive as it is forgettable. I don't hate it, but there's so many other/better albums (even electronic(a) albums) that I'd rather listen to these days.

I'd rate a little more highly than that but not a great deal, it's nice enough.
