Damn this sucks; he really was one of the all-time greats of my generation. “Young Frankenstein” and “Blazing Saddles” are Wilder at the top of his game, and of course his Willy Wonka was just the right mix of weird and wonderful. RIP.

That's definitely how I first knew him, and I loved it. Also "Quakser Fortune Has a Cousin in the Bronx" is fun (1970).

Let's not forget "The Producers." What a great movie and truly original.

Many don't realize that he was a great writer, sharing credits for many of the movies in which he starred.

When I heard this, I immediately thought of my father, who passed away in 2009. He was a huge Gene Wilder fan, and I just noticed that he and Wilder were the same age, born in 1933. I'll never forget going to see Young Frankenstein when it came out. I don't ever recall laughing as hard. It really was a perfect parody. Best memory of all was how much my dad enjoyed it, and how we'd often reference the film afterwards ("Abby-Normal" was one of our favorites). So Gene Wilder is definitely wrapped up in some great memories of my youth. Loved so many of his films, he definitely brought a lot of joy to a lot of people, and to my family. Thank you Gene!

Richard Prior was Mel Brooks first choice to co-star with Wilder in Blazing Saddles but the studio that was backing the film also had a TV show starring Clevon Little and wanted to put him over. Prior still had a hand in writing Blazing Saddles... which is where Wilder and Brooks hatched their idea for Young Frankenstein. RIP indeed.

Some of the best movies ever.

    Thanks Gene. RIP.
He didn't really work this century, but he didn't need to with those 4 under his belt. Brilliantly cast he was, huge loss for all.
His sitcom,"Something Wilder", no one remembers this, gave me some chuckles.

Not to forget him playing Dr. Ross in Woody Allen's "Everything you always wanted to know about sex". RIP to an amazing actor!

Put me in the "thumbs up" category in one of his most divisive movies, Start The Revolution Without Me. Cult status? Yes. A little uneven but some great moments.

His just being on the screen makes one smile. Sad loss.

It just occurred to me that now I'll have to keep monitoring TCM's schedule because they're bound to run a Wilder marathon within a couple weeks.

Edit: they already posted it. Get your DVRs ready:

I am truly saddened by this loss. i feel like i've lost a family member.
i grew up watching Gene in so many great roles in so many great movies.
when trying to single out my favorites i couldn't- all his roles were classic.
he was one of a kind and truly a larger than life personality.
his death has left a big hole in our hearts that can never be filled.
My mother died from Dementia/Alzheimers- it's a horrible disease.

Saddles and Franken-steen are tops in my book. Did you know he had a cameo in the sci-fi movie, Logan's Run? A great loss. RIP.

That's correct, but TCM isn't showing Blazing Saddles.
