Shylock - La Somme des Parties. Que?

So Greg threw this in his mailer last night. I just thought it might be something I missed prior and started researching. We don't have it in Gnosis. Not in RYM. Not in Discogs. No online review (that I could find). I can't find evidence of the self-released disc that is being "reissued" in Japan. I'm most curious now. Re-recorded versions of the first 2 albums could be interesting as well as the promise of unreleased tracks. Anyone heard it or know anything further?

SHYLOCK - LA SOMME DES PARTIES - RE-RECORDED BEST OF SHYLOCK (+ BONUS TRACK) (JAPANESE MINI LP SLEEVE SHM-CD) $30 Reissue of a private release that the band put out a few years back and contains re-recorded as well as previously unreleased tracks

I also spotted that, you guys are quick! I was wondering if it was "unofficial"... this was around the same time I realized I was not yet prepared to shell out for those Shingetsu reissues. Those Japanese SHM CDs are a tad overpriced IMO.

    Is it a Tachika release?

Progatron, do you have the Shingetsu boxed set from a number of years back? Some nice stuff on there.

Of course you can buy the normal CD Version by the band itself:

Oh, I DO know what that is! Someone posted a photo of it to my group a while back, and I had forgotten it existed. I may have to get that... I love their two albums.

Ah-ha! There is the original. Different title it appears, which explains that part. Though "Best Of" is certainly misleading it would appear. The website further adds: "The album "Best of" will contain all the main Shylock titles: Le Quatrième, Le Cinquième, Le Sixième, Laocksetal (Le Septième), Ile de Fièvre (Le Huitième), Le Dernier (Le Neuvième) rearranged, and Le Dixième, a new song. All track have been re-recorded at the studio Arion in Nice by André Fisichella (drums) Laurent James (bass), Frédéric L'Epée (guitar), Didier Lustig (keys) and Luca Mariotti (keys)."

As to the Tachika (lol) comments... The Japanese CD is on Belle Antique, so it's all above board.

Thanks for the feedback TheH, and Progatron please report back if you do indeed bring it in!

It's exactly what it says it is. Re-recorded versions of old Shylock tracks by the new Shylock.

    We'll have it soon.

I was looking for something a bit more insightful. I'm curious: What makes you think that's helpful? Stop being a condescending jackass and a constant bully. And I'll buy it from Greg. Thank you.

Ehhhhhh...it clarified exactly what it was, and that Wayside will have it in stock soon. And I'll be happily buying a copy once it arrives at Chez Wayside.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

That "clarification" was redundant and not very helpful: all these "info's" can already be found in the O.P's 1st introduction post. He was obviously asking for more detailed informations, if any was available. If there's nothing useful or new to add better not to clutter the thread by repeating the same. I would be much more interested to know how the "new" versions compare to the originals: are they very close or completely new renditions, etc... and what's about the unreleased tracks ? Any reviews ? Well, being a SHYLOCK fan I think I'll buy the record anyway...

Yes, fine, fair enough, but I gave all the information I have (which is, apparently, all the information that all dealers currently have, because that's all the info that the record label has given us) and I didn't have the information he wanted and I didn't realize he already had what info I did have.

Forgive me my sin in trying to be helpful. I'll avoid doing so again.

Bought this direct from the drummer (iirc) a couple of years ago. Good that it's getting wider distribution at last. It's really a treat for Shylock fans. It brings all of the band's best material in one place and shows Shylock at its most attractive. Lustig is using an actual ELKA Rhapsody so it's very much a re-creation of what the band sounded like at the time rather than any misguided attempt at "updating" it. The other keyboard player replaced Lustig for some gigs (I don't have the CD handy but I don't think it's made clear which tracks he plays on) but I understand Lustig subsequently returned, although I don't know that Shylock is really a going concern now that L'Epée is based in Berlin and the others are still in the South of France.

Sorry, but for my taste this is too much information about the release. I would have preferred a short schematic statement like the above one.

In truth, I'm a little surprised at the hostility here. Over a damned Shylock CD of re-recorded tunes, even.

This isn't a Yes thread, people.

I wrote this as a joke after what had been written before... thought it was obvious.

It was obvious, yes. It could also be seen as fanning the flames by others. Anyway, don't worry about it. That's not why I responded to the thread.

[PS : A note to the OP... I don't know if this was the intention, but "Que ?" doesn't mean anything in French. It should be "Quoi ?", or better, "Qu'est-ce ?"]

I was also a bit surprised...

Especially that the bickering parts probably never post in Yes threads

yoyiceu: maybe a little smiley might've made it a little more obvious
I mean, it was funny, but could've been seen as fuelling the nascent fire.

Aymeric, is this really essential, or for fans only??

I mean, will this show a new facet of the band, or is it just a "modernized-sonics" re-re
(yes, I'm reading you Canterbury book )

I'd recommend this to (a) those who have both albums and really LOVE them; (b) those who own no Shylock and want all their best stuff. The others I would still advise to get the CD as it also has some previously unheard music (also from the 70s).
