    What well known bands formed 75 and earlier have you seen live?

    Simple really, what well known bands formed 1975 and earlier have you seen live? (Individual "solo" artists don't count even if they had/have a band, as the individual wasn't formed as a band at a specific point)

    I think you're okay on all your date question marks.

    I must ask though, what were Styx like live? I've always heard bad reports especially from UK gigs

    Nah, cos then it will devolve into sillyness about who only had a backing band or session musicians but was in effect still a solo artist, and who in effect actually was a band, but just using their own name. Steve Miller Band? Yea, that's a band. Neil Young? No, not a band. However, Neil Young & Crazy Horse is a named band credited with albums ... and I forgot to include them on my list Elvis Costello? No. Elvis Costello & The Attractions? Yes, that's also a named band credited with albums.

    No, I missed Mountain. Did manage to see Leslie West and Corky Laing with Jack Bruce.

    I also forgot James Cotton Blues Band, Loggins & Messina, Steeleye Span, Weather Report, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, Bruce & the E Street Band (in 1973), David Bowie & the Spiders from Mars, the Beach Boys, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Sea Train, and the Young Rascals .

    If that's the case, it's an asinine rule and I suggest everyone ignore it. Ted Nugent played with the same band for several albums from his 1975 debut onward (after disbanding the Amboy Dukes), as did Elton John throughout the 70s. Paul McCartney and Wings began in 1973. Count Basie had an orchestra. B.B. King had the same band for years.

    Who gives a damn. If they played solo '75 or before (like David Bowie or Donovan). Then list them to your heart's content.
