Another WTF for the SGM/BN comparison (& yes, I've seen them both).

I also feel that Bent Knee completely fails to be a replacement for the Talking Heads.

    I don't. Not even a little bit.

That's why I asked the question in the first place. I thought I was was missing something obvious?

Perhaps i just meant vocally and when they hit those heavier strides...it just strikes me as being something i've heard done better and wish i were listening to that instead...in general this is another band i don't get the praise for i suppose...oh well, carry on.

Are any of them really related to Stuckey's?

They don't even know what Stuckey's is. I asked them. Then I had to explain what it was, and what kind of food it sold, and how you can still see a few of those distinctive flat buildings with the green reverse-gambrel roof that used to sell various pecan munchies - repurposed to sell something else, of course - and how identifiable those buildings are. I think Stuckey's itself might still be around, but mostly in the South.

Apparently their headquarters is or was in Silver Spring, MD - which might partially explain why Steve came up with that particular witticism.

I kinda feel the same way. No doubt there is quality and well recorded stuff going on but it just doesnt resonate with me and where I am right now. I guess this will live in backburner land until I change.

Say So has surpassed Shiny Eyed Babies and has officially become one of my favorite albums ever. It's just so perfect.

I think I actually like "Babies" a bit better, but they are both great albums for sure.

Say So is the first album I've heard by them, and I will definitely check out the rest of their stuff when I have the funds to do so. I would have killed to see them in KC, but this country apparently has a thing against those under 21.

They are also coming to CHICAGO, Sept 11 at The Emporium in Wicker Park.

Which sort of looks like an odd venue... video arcade, bar, and music.

They seem to play a lot of odd venues. Which is, I guess, par for the course for a mostly indie band whose music doesn't fit into any easy box, touring in an old minivan and doing their own booking.

Don't forget those little tiny pecan pies. They were great - when I was a kid and our family went on vacation, we'd always stop at Stuckey's to get a box of them for desserts. And no, unlike some people I could name, I am not making up one word of that. We really did drive out to Colorado every year for vacation, and we really did buy little tiny pecan pies at Stuckey's.
