Thread: A new ELP??

    A new ELP??

Now that the shock and raw emotion has faded, somewhat, it's time to think about the future.

Here's what I would like to see: a new ELP!

    Eddie Jobson, Lake and Palmer.

Yeah, yeah, I know that some will automatically gainsay this and some, after some thought, will also say no.

But, consideration this: both Palmer and Jobson still tour and Lake has come out semi-retirement to play. We know that Jobson has the chops to play the material and I, for one, would love to hear some electric violin in "Tarkus".

It doesn't have to be an on-going project but, at least, a one-off tour would give us a last chance to experience the magic of ELP. And, having another '70s prog icon in Jobson would generate more interest than a relative unknown player.

This would be big in Japan.

    RLP, Rosenthal, Lake and Palmer
Rosenthal can play anything, as seen with his work with HTM.

Or that Jobson would ever consider being Keith's stand-in. Maybe for a one-off tribute event, but not on an ongoing basis. Not unless there was wads of cash waved in front of him.

What needs to happen is for kids to discover the power and the glory of the Hammond organ, then support bands like Big Elf, etc. THEN we might see something like ELP grace the planet again.

Young musicians with a love for the Hammond organ? How about DeWolff?

Lake is washed up, there's no way he could keep pace with anyone who is up to speed.

The Carl Palmer Band is specifically designed to take the attention away from keyboards and place it on himself, the drummer. I doubt he has any interest an ELP unit, other than milking the music with his own band that he is in charge of, or coasting along with ASIA.

Yeah, it's amazing how sixty eight year olds like Lake and myself can't keep up. I wonder why.

No disrespect to you but have you seen/heard his "guitar player" and "bass player"? I put them in quotes because both guys simply transcend their instruments.

I am a drummer. I love drums. I love Carl Palmer. But when I watch his recent trio, I only watch these two guys. They are over-the-top talented and do the material justice.

Not saying he would, but everyone else is throwing out fantasy combinations, so why can't I?

I had a DVD of them, but got rid of it pretty soon. ELP music without keyboards is just lacking.

Lake & Palmer should join AC /DC and help them finish their tour, and call it Young, Lake and Palmer. Seriously, let these guys go out with some dignity. They no longer need to do anything. There's plenty of bands and musicians with a future to check out.

Guys, I mean no disrespect. I'm the biggest of ELP fans, and I even work for Carl. In fact I just did the graphics for his Emerson tribute show. I've seen Carl's band more times than I can remember, and I'm good friends with Paul the guitartist. I call it the way I see it though, Carl has a strategy about how and why he presents ELP's music the way he does. He's had plenty of opportunity to tour with Keith and Greg, or a keyboard player.... he chooses not too.

And if you haven't seen Greg lately or think he's as nimble as ever - ready to jump in with Jobson or Rudess, more power to you.

Different strokes. A friend lent me the DVD of Carl's band, and I just couldn't get into it. I did dig the bass player, but the no keys thing just didn't feel right.
