    PE ruined Phil Collins

To be honest, I have never encountered anywhere else the level of Phil Collins bashing that goes on here at PE. Actually, I rarely encounter Phil Collins bashing anywhere other than PE.
It's astounding how unpleasant some people can be about a musical artist.

As for who ruined Genesis, well that would be PG by producing the turkey called Lamb then leaving the band in shtuck! Just my opinion!

I agree with you on Phil Collins but no good can come from starting a fresh topic treating this as a PE problem or calling out Gabriel. For what it's worth, I see Phil Collins bashing everywhere I hang out on the internet.

It has become an on-running gag done facetiously by most here...

    Just for the record:

    Phil Collins has ruined everything.

    The Beatles invented everything.

There. Now you are ready to post on PE.

I agree that the Phil Collins bashing is fairly ridiculous but to call the Lamb a "turkey" is equally that.

This is also the case in all prog forums

PC bashing was a regular thing in the 90's, even by non-prog rockers(notably those insufferable Gallagher bros of Oasis)

This smiley ;-) after my PG/Lamb comment, should've been sufficient, one would hope, to mark a T.I.C moment :-)

    Yes is a tribute band.

I've done my share of "Phil Collins ruined..." jokes but it's definitely in fun. Phil is in y top ten drummers and singers ever and even if I don't like everything he's done in his career it doesn't change my respect for him.

    Another Phil Collins thread.
I guess Phil is the new Yes.

Like I said in that other thread, there are people in this world who are convinced they are funny. Sadly, they are not.

Don't forget that when you mention a new band or artist you must provide camples.

And we appreciate the Thought Police for helping us understand that.

For the record - I think Phil Collins is a damn good musician, drummer and actor. I have no problem with him. He made his way and did it successfully. Good for him. Go ahead and bash... so what.

Just like there are people in this world who think that if something isn't funny to them, then it isn't funny at all.

Anyone in the public eye is up for ridicule. I work in a very small corner of the entertainment industry, and I have had my work critisized. No big deal, you can't please everybody. Years ago, I remember having a member of Yes sign my CTTE album, at an autograph session, and he didn't even look at me and tossed the album back at me with casual disdain. I thought it was hilarious, but someone else may have considered it cruel and completely devoid of humour.

Phil had a huge impact on the world of music, and an amazingly successful career. Nobody can take that away from him. If he wants to make music again, good for him, I say.

Does that mean you want him to record with Jon Anderson?

You're right, I don't. I used to though, back in the early 90s, when I still thought it was funny.

Phil played with Brand X, so his place in history is secured. All else is secondary.

I'm also thinking of the liner notes of Caravan's all Over You in the mid-90's

    =============

See Peter, the thing is that Collins and Madonna and Miiiiiichael typify everything that was wrong with the 80's music. An
d their omnipresence on MTV certainly didn't help
