You never forget your first love

I remembered yesterday that I bought my 1st prog album 40 years ago in the summer of 1975 so I made a special point of re-listening to that album last night...and it still sounded great! Where did I start my prog collection journey? With a classic...Brain Salad Surgery. I'd been aware of ELP since Lucky Man was a huge radio hit when I was 10. Years later, I'd seen tv promo commercials for the broadcast of ELP headlining the California Jam back in '74 on a late night show called "In Concert". The promo showed Keith in the flying piano...I was super excited to see ELP but wound up missing the show. Over a year later in early July 1975, I rode my 10-speed to my local record store on a cool July morning and was just flipping casually through the rock section and stumbled across that HR Giger cover and that was it...sold! I spent the rest of the summer playing BSS over and over and over. When summer ended and I returned to high school as a sophomore, I picked up Close to the Edge and never looked back

Anyone else want to share their 1st prog album purchase story?
