A very cool night of music under the proggy umbrella - all hard to pigeonhole into one category, but all very talented and adventurous - January 31st at the North Star Bar:


Out of the Beardspace http://beardspace.bandcamp.com/ - Experimental NJ-based band with alot of fusion and Zappa influences

Stratospheerius http://stratospheerius.com/music/- prog/jamband powerhouse out of NYC led by electric violinist Joe Deninzon. Current lineup also includes bassist Jamie Bishop (The Syn/Francis Dunnery's New Progressives) and French guitarist Aurelian Budynek (aLkemy).

Left of Logic http://leftoflogic.bandcamp.com/ - Adventurous new band out of Philly. Proggy/Electronica? Featuring the 3-piece configuration of Bass/Percussion/Keytar.

Silent Reunion http://www.silentreunion.com/music/ - Interesting/Atmospheric/Mars Volta-ish group out of Phoenixville


All four bands blur the lines of prog/fusion/jam-band/funk/electronica and all four are supporting recent album releases. Should be a very cool night. For $8.

Just giving this a bump - anyone in the Philly area wanting to check out some cool proggy bands at the North Star.

I haven't been to the North Star bar in a long time. I believe I only saw one concert there and that was the California Guitar Trio and the Flower Kings back about ten years ago.

Anyway, I don't know any of those bands and I now live probably over an hour away but it's good to see something like this taking place.
