    Prog in Portland?

After the last 30 or so years in Southern California, I have moved onto my next chapter in Portland, OR. Now being fairly familiar with the SoCal scene, I was hoping there might be someone out there who could fill me in on what is going on and around the Portland area. I am aware of...and have already planned on attending the Autumn Electric/Mercury Tree gig at the Analog Cafe next month. I know all about the Decemberists, ARZ and Aaron English (he's Seattle actually)---but does anyone know of any other Portland-based bands OR prog gigs that are going on or planned for the area. Thanks in advance!

not sure how "prog" a lot of this is, but I recently made this list about the artists from Portland, Oregon I'm into.

if there is 1 band whose kind of my newest favorite, it would be Small Leaks, Sink Ships and their latest record "Face Yourself, and Remove Your Sandals.

proggiest track is probably "Building Blocks"

Magma is playing there on April 4th, I believe. And The Mercury Tree are absolutely awesome. Their latest CD Countenance is killer, so good call on that one. Happy exploring!

Dissonati is a great band imo, and at least one of their members (PE member Baribrotzer) lives in Portland. They are definitely a NW Pacific band.

    Check them out for sure!

Welcome to 'Cascadia' (be sure to look it up if you're not familiar)!

    +1 on Dissonati.

And since you're close (3-1/2 hours), be sure to get to the SeaProg Festival August 7-9 in Columbia City (Seattle). Intimate and lots of fun. Recently announced that Moe Tar will play this year! Details at: http://seaprogfest.org/

If you're into psych (and who isn't?) check out a local Portland band called Eternal Tapestry. Here's the link to their latest: https://oakenpalace.bandcamp.com/album/guru-overload

Thanks all...great start. I look forward to getting deeper into the scene. However, going to miss Kerry, the Beard and Phideaux!
