To my mind these are mutually exclusive terms. It is either Prog or pop. Same goes for Prog/metal. To my ears Prog/metal is metal.
O.k. have at it.
P.s. Don't even get me started about Prog/Hip Hop.

Define "pop".
You're wrong.
Pop is short for popular, which to my mind means accessible. Yes is very accessible, even their proggier pieces. Yes are one of the progenitors of prog. Therefore/QED/&c.

Plasmatopia: Maybe a song in D minor that has never been played?

well, musicians were doing capital P Progressive things using Rock music elements for a few years before Yes' first Prog album making Yes 'bandwagon jumpers'
but, Yes *is* Prog Pop in that they were one of the Prog artists to get commercial radio play back in the early 70s whereas Mahavishnu Orchestra did not
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
Two words for you, wrong and wrong.

Someone needs his nap.
You're saying you can't define pop then?
My definition of "pop" is the same as the one given above by DustyChalk, but I know some people mean different things by the word. Hence, I asked for YOUR understanding of the word. This was not said in an attempt to cut you down, it was done in the spirit of trying to understand what you are actually saying.
If you want to discuss the issue in a civil manner, I'm up for it. If it's just going to be name-calling, well I have lots of other threads I can read.
What is the fascination with needing to label music?

Sure I do. Its all good. I thought you were making a joke. The old "what is prog" and how to define it routine. But I mostly agree that Pop music is simply what is popular (at the moment), and what is assessable (meaning that which gets airplay). Going by that, Prog /pop is a virtual impossibility.
