    This or That

Your options are to keep your entire CD/LP collection, but that's all you are allowed to play ever again for the rest of your life,

    OR

You have to give up your CD/LP collection (you get compensated at current market value), and never again can own or play physical media, but you do get free lifetime access to a streaming service that has all albums ever made and all future albums as they are released. The streaming service is guaranteed to be operative for the rest of your life.

I gotta go with option A. I'm a control freak about my media.
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

I'll go for option b and then just burn everything on to blank cds.

No, in this hypothetical you are never again allowed to play or own physical media. I'm sorry if I was unclear with that.

    It's purely optional!

I'm just curious what the answers would be. I'd miss my stuff, but I'd have to be aware of all the new music being made, so I'd pick B.

I'd go for 'B' if it has shuffle mode.

I could live with that option. I think I have enough music to listen to for the rest of my life.

My perfect scenario is to buy physical media and immediately rip it, so that I have the best of all worlds, but Facelift has made it clear that this option isn't available.

So, as he says, I'd want to be able to keep current, which would make me choose option B..

I basically have this now, with Pandora One. However it does not allow me to choose an album and play it in NON-SHUFFLE mode.

If I could do that, I'd have no more use for the physical medium.

In both scenarios, artists make little to no money whatsoever. I go with C) own the music and continue buying new music. If for no other reason, so musicians can continue to eat, and afford to produce new music.

There is no c. It's either a or b. Otherwise you are breaking the rules like I did.

    B.

Without a doubt. Especially if I could get full value for all of those CDs. I'd be able buy you all something nice for Christmas!

Now, if we're talking about books, I have to have the paper in my hands. I simply cannot read comfortably from a screen for any length of time.

You are always free in all scenarios to donate money to whomever/whatever music ensembles you wish. A check cut directly to arists will give them much more money that whatever pittance is gained from the sale of a CD. So this is an irrelevant factor.

Current market value (which I guess would be the lowest price found for an item in similar condition selling on Discogs/Amazon/Ebay, etc).

NOW you're thinking like my wife ("Why didn't they just kill Gilligan? Then they'd have gotten off the island?")

Do we get high quality copies of the artwork and liner notes, especially including any big booklets, reproduced programs, etc? How's the audio quality?

It probably also doesn't have all the music you have on CD/LP. Definitely doesn't for me.

If they killed Gilligan then the Skipper wouldn't have a Little Buddy. Anyway, The Professor wasn't getting anyone off that island. He had both Mary Ann and Ginger to himself.

Audio quality would be fine (what Spotify currently is, and inclusive of whatever improvements it makes).

You'd be able to view on-line whatever the album art and liner notes were, but no physical copies could be owned.
