I haven't watched last night's episode yet so I had to look up who John Rocker was when you mentioned him. He sounds like a lovely man. I especially like this quote of his referring to New York City...

    What a charming man.

Apparently he did an interview yesterday and mentioned that Survivor was the worst thing that he's ever done. Speculation is that he didn't make it to the merge, based on that comment. I thought that the contestants weren't allowed to comment on the game until after the live show. I wonder if he'll get in any legal trouble for that comment.

Here is a not very politically correct article about him on Survivor, but kinda funny if you're not easily offended... http://www.barstoolsports.com/chicag...-he-didnt-win/

    And he's still a meathead

Too early to tell, but this seems like an interesting group.

Clearly John Rocker was cast for two reasons:

    1) Built in "hate" factor.

    2) His wife is still smoking hot.

Autumn, I understand why you posted his infamous statement. As a NY Met fan my whole life, believe me, I remember his statement very well.

But this is very, very close to a spoiler:

Please, everyone, use white text from here on to avoid spoiling the show for the rest of us, if you absolutely must post any pre-broadcast info. This should include any information from "previews of next weeks show" (since I refuse to watch those manipulative clips) or any other information from other sources that reveals anything at all about future broadcasts.

There will be plenty of time to discuss any and all events after they are shown on the national broadcast.

    Seems fair enough, right?

Pretty funny that Rocker thought he could play this game incognito. He said his last name was "Wetteland", haha. John Wetteland was a fairly well known relief pitcher, he was the Yankees big closer before Mariano Rivera eclipsed him like Lou Gehrig. Maybe he should have used the alias Wally Pipp instead...

Speaking of the "hate" factor, I suspect the twins from The Amazing Race were cast for similar reasons. I don't "hate" them, but I don't really care for their act. Looks like a lot of the players felt the same way, sending one of them home first.

So they have "Exile Island" but the circumstances sure seem different this year. How will it work? Or was that just a first episode twist?

Sorry about that. I did think about putting a spoiler warning on it, but it was in the news so I figured people were going to see it anyhow.

I messed up and forgot to set the DVR last night (I was at work when the show aired). My wife completely forgot about it too. Oh well, will have to join in next week.

Why wait when you all can watch the entire episode online?

No need for seeking, that is a link to CBS/Survivor full episodes.

I liked the episode and the immunity challenge was great with probably the best puzzle they ever had. Of the contestants, I bet the twins don't last just due to annoying factor, same for the brothers who are super cocky.

I didn't make it past 9pm so I have yet to watch the tribal, but I know who went.

On Rocker, he is a meathead and that is most likely his biggest flaw.

Just finished the episode. I also don't understand this year's version of Exile Island. Maybe it is random and survivors are to "expect the unexpected"

That seemed like a waste of Exile Island to me. What was the point? So two, somewhat random, players miss the first two nights. Big deal. Sure, it meant that they didn't have time to bond with their team...they also didn't have time to annoy their team. It looks like it ended up being a benefit to them in the end. And the thing with the blank "clue" was dumb too. Not a stellar start to the season IMO. Although the immunity challenge was a pretty good one and I loved the blue team's comeback for the win.

I don't mind the Exile Island thing. It's more of a nuisance to the players sent, but I prefer it over the stupid Redemption Island idea. When ya think about it, a lot can happen strategy-wise in 2 nights.

If they were looking to stir the pot by inviting John Rocker this season, I think they might have got way, way more then they bargained for. What a predictable turn of events really: John Rocker off his frigging rocker?

    Who could have guessed that?

The Exile island thing is actually pretty cool the way it is set up, absolute guaranteed pot stirring no matter what, loved ones one on one, loser gets Exiled, winner has to Exile a fellow tribe member, so actually gets to lose too.

All kinds of unintended consequences sure to emerge...

Perhaps that explains what happened to Val, who seems to have had all her good cop sense knocked out of her by her visit to Exile. Why lie so badly to big mouth Rocker about TWO idols no less. Again, she is a police officer, used to finding evidence for Chrissake, and she can't find the idol with several days head start on that lunkhead Rocker, who finds the idol in like 7 seconds?

Really a lot happened besides that too. Love both challenges, that water showdown is a classic.

Looks like this is going to be one hell of a season, lots of hilarity ahead.

My early choice is Josh. Or even better Reed, who is in the better tribe at this stage, and is keeping a lower profile.

To be fair, the clue that Val got was much less specific. I think it just hinted that the idol is buried somewhere around the watering hole, whereas Rocker also had the information that it's seven paces north from it.

Maybe so, but my point still stands. She had days to look and she is a cop, used to searching for stuff much, much harder to find. Like bullet casings.

Just emphasizes the other point I was making, it appears that going to Exile screws with some people . Either that or Val just really wasn't all that good for this game. Dalton says she was Jeff's pre-show favorite to win the whole thing. (He also said the clues Val and Rocker got were the same, but I think he may be wrong about that.)

    The 2-idol lie was dumb.

Too early to tell who will come out above or be a stand out player, for me.

Me to my husband: Rocker found an idol, why would he believe that a tribe mate also found an idol at the same camp?

    Husband: Because he's John Rocker.

I have to say that this is the most annoying, stupid (clueless) cast ever! Making the few "with it" contestants seem super smart. I count 4 misogynist, ego maniac young men, several people who obviously never knew gay people existed, and nearly an entire cast who while they can remember old castmates names, can't seem to grasp one iota of strategy.

    The saving grace, beautiful scenery.

Definitely a gaggle of meatheads and dumbasses in this season No matter to me though, just more entertainment!

Right now I'm liking the games of Josh, Jeremy and the chick that got her lip busted open by her mom

Correct. The messages give an additional clue each time until the idol is found.

Having said that, now what are they (Survivor) going to do? On Exile Island they choose an urn and then there's a clue. So, will there only be one urn for the other tribe? Will there be 2 idols per side?

Well, we no longer need to worry about spoilers regarding Rocker being voted out. I'm not sure that was a smart move for a team that can't win a challenge. Time will tell.

I just don't get the point of exile island this season.

^ Yeah. They seemed to play right into the strategy of the other team...I mean of course their competitors want to get rid of the big strong man, even if he was the nicest, classiest gentleman on the island. But as you said, time will tell.

I think the point of Exile is to make the head to head battle between loved ones mean something more on an emotional level, at least in the beginning of the game before relationships can be developed.
