Thread: Favorite prog albums excluding these 8 groups.

Favorite prog albums excluding these 8 groups.

List your 10 favorite prog albums excluding these 8 groups:

    Pink Floyd
    Jethro Tull
    ELP
    Genesis
    Rush
    King Cimson
    Yes
    Moody Blues

These 8 bands made tons of great albums. We talk about them endlessly. Also, they are always listed in general favorite prog lists and had good chart success.

I thought it would be fun to hear from people within the Progressive Ears community with a much deeper appreciation and knowledge of this type of music. Any era and sub genre of progressive rock is fair game.
Most of us are familiar with most of the 8 I listed. This list will be a good way for us to discover some of the less obvious, but great albums.

The only intention of this thread is to help great albums get recognition without competing with the most popular bands in the genre.

    Let's see ...

    Transatlantic, SMPT:e
    Echolyn, Mei
Bozzio Levin Stevens, Black Light Syndrome
    VDGG, Pawn Hearts
    Spock's Beard, V
    Anglagard, Hybris
    IQ, Dark Matter
    Tangerine Dream, Zeit
    Echolyn, As the World
    Astra, The Weirding

I'd include a few Flower Kings albums, but even their greatest records tend to have a lot of stuff that I skip over.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but those were the first ones I thought of.

Edited (case in point) because I can't believe I forgot VDGG!

Return To Forever - Anthology (contains all 4 of their Rock quartet albums)
    PFM - Per Un Amico
    Mandrill - Mandrill
    Camel - The Snow Goose
    Herbie Hancock - Sextant
Bruford - One Of A Kind
    Santana - Caravanserai
    Sensations Fix - Portable Madness
Stanley Clarke - S/T (aka the brown album)
Happy The Man - Crafty Hands

there are at least another 20+ perfect Prog albums that aren't by Crimso, Pink Floyd or the Popular Symph bands you mentioned.
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Most threads in here are in fact NOT about those eight bands, so why not just read the (vast majority of) other posts popping up?

"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
