    Steven Wilson - Upcoming remixes

    Saw this on SW's website:

Five more Steven Wilson classic album remixes are to be released this year.

This includes two iconic 80’s albums that reached no.1 in the UK and USA respectively.

All should be announced over the next few weeks.

    Any guesses?

I'm struggling to think of two 'iconic masterpieces' from the 80's that peaked at No1 in the UK & USA respectively???

Yeah, let the guessing game begin?

    TFF - Big chair
    Squeeze - Argy Bargy

Don't know if these were no. 1 - but I would love to hear these with the SW magic.

    My guesses are:
    Yes- hopefully relayer
Jethro Tull- I think warchild was mentioned as next?
XTC - did they have a number 1 album in the US?
And on to my wishfull thinking part-
Van der graaf generator - Pawnhearts
    Gong - Angels egg

There were no Yes #1 albums in the 80's but Asia/Asia was a "Yes-related" US #1
    Marillion's Misplaced Childhood was a UK #1
I've no great confidence in either of these guesses though...

Are there any more SW remixes of KC still to appear (Beat & TOAPP)?
DGM are to release the 'Beat' package later this year, if my memory still works.
    We'll see.

    Guessing 90125 and Asia.

    Thriller and Invisible Touch?
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Also, Ephemeral Sun: it's a thing and we like making things that might be your thing: https://ephemeralsun.bandcamp.com

Yeah, I wondered about 90125, given SW's access to the Yes archives, but it didn't make No 1 either in UK or US.

I'd be very surprised if it's the Asia album, but then SW does have varied tastes....

I'm usually content to just wait for the announcements and not speculate, but his description has really piqued my curiosity this time round!

Misplaced Childhood or Talk Talk (was that #1 in the UK? ) I mean after Talk Talk went "PROG" (TM) (R).

I would pay serious coin to hear a 5.1 mix of anything from Talk Talk's later era.

Probably isn't this one, but I'd also enjoy hearing a 5.1 mix from Momentary Lapse of Reason. Yes, really.

90125 peaked at No.4. in the USA. Owner went to No. 1. Iconic is a funny word, the definition seems variable to the user.

Good guess as to Marillion though. I think Wilson is a fan.

I believe the next Yes release will be Topographic.

Nobody said the 80s albums (or any of the remixes actually) are going to be prog, in fact Im pretty sure there is no prog album from the 80s that can be considered iconic...
I think it will be something on the XTC / Talk Talk (good call, this one) vein, but even more iconic and more varied (ie very wild guess- Purple Rain by Prince, for example).
If memory serves, I think SW even once expressed his will to remix an Abba album! So anything is possible...

If SW's reputation has gotten to where is now doing remixes for non-prog acts then we may not see new music from him for a long, long time. I mean, it's great for him. Not so good for us.
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

He's in the studio right now for an early '15 release

Steven Wilson in Twitter few days ago: "Recording of the follow up album to 'The Raven that Refused To Sing' starts this month (with the same band line-up)."

    It's good to be wrong.

I believe that Steven Wilson treats this remixing thing as nice hobby more than a career alternative for his own music making.

Yes, Beat and ToaPP...Beat is, afaik, still on track to be released around the same time as the Starless box.

Not true, IMO. He has stated that he sees remixes as one of the two things that interest him these days (the other being his own music, of course). He only chooses albums that he is invested in to remix (so I doubt Asia will be on that list), and given how much his work remixing the Crimson catalog informed aspects of Grace for Drowning, I'd say it's far more than a hobby.

And there is plenty of time for both remixes and new music from Wilson....

Well, that is one thing I feel that it is a hobby (that pays some bills) because he only remixes albums that he likes. If he really considered it as a career don't you think he would't remix other stuff too?

And yes hobbies have tendency to inform the career. I would definately say that my music hobby inspires my graphic design work.

Anyway my original point was that I would not ever fear that this remixing lark is a threat to his main thing that is his own music.
