E9 should be write up my street but I bought the double Live Psychedelic Backfire 1 which is just the trio and a sort of greatest hits, I will probably get the debut but I will leave it at that ....
Me neither , I must admit I like the early trio best , slightly crazed , avant garde , edgy .
Just couple of recent finds which I can add if anyone is looking for newer Hammond driven albums
EGO from Italy have an excellent instrumental album
...
Thank you !
Can anyone recommend any record / cd shops in Berlin , looking for Prog especially. Thanks
Lee Jackson
My only addition is the sort of fetish of overly close up on hands with head body cut off . I remember the footage of Weather Report circa 76 at a festival with early Jaco , but few camera angles...
That’s Flashback records in Islington North London , I was there yesterday and those are the outside £2/3 bins , so suspect it’s a bit incongruous being there rather than her actively seeking out ELP
Bill , thanks again , you’ve suggested some great stuff. I ‘ ve been in touch with Jordan from Space Junk and have just managed to get hold of almost the last vinyl copy of the debut , really enjoy...
Does anyone have the live album , I think released in Japan ? Do they stretch out live and also is the recording any good ?
AKA Moon , not exactly Prog . The incredible Michel Hatzigeorgiou on Bass
Fantastic thank you , just what I m after , can recommend Bootcut in similar style also Wild Organ ( bit more funk) who you can find on Bandcamp
I ‘ ve picked up all 3 Bootcut releases recently and think they are a terrific addition to my rabbit hole of organ duos and trios . So Elephant9, Niacin , Bootcut make quite a trio of listening in...
Prefer non vocal but it’s hard to find
Triade are quite interesting Organ Trio
Any others ?
Always thought Love Beach was Palmer's best stripped back playing . Much less busy but still some interesting fills , also it’s not the stainless steel kit , it’s wooden shell Gretsch , it sounds...
Just getting in to this amazing band who somehow don’t seem to have as much presence in Prog circles as their music would suggest . Does anyone have recommendations from the catalogue . The debut...
Castle Canyon from the 1973 original recordings ( but released a lot later )
Gorecki Symphony of Sorrowful Songs excerpt 3rd Movement
High Voltage seemed a tense affair for ELP , not least due to time pressure due to overruns and the end having to finish on pain of fine at 1030 . I found Carl’s quote about E and L not being as...
I ‘ m ok with vocals , they are quirky , it’s Peter Seilers keyboards that I ‘ m living on these albums and on the Live Stagge Hotel CD they really stretch out , he’s a great Moog and Hammond player...
Re-release: Gardens of Delight - Walter Nowicki has released the first TRITONUS album on CD. A Collector ́s Item for collectors with a detailed biography/story, photos and bonus tracks.
A ride down...
Cherry Red release . Nothing really new for collectors but an album that might sound better with Andy Pearce remastering
...
Every morning when I get up , pot of tea and read Prog Ears , fantastic site and last 6 mths I got a load of great suggestions when I was looking for keyboard duos/ trios. No site like it. Thank you
He quite often mentions that the only things he was a good at were music and cricket , would love to hear about where he played cricket ( probably just school) . I ‘ m a cricketer and drummer and...

Le Orme are a good example , I think that really good run of albums are mostly 35 mins as are some of the early PFM releases , but somehow that works just fine for me.
Well done Sean , he’s always a fabulous interviewee , will watch this tonight
Absolutely this , in 2024 I ‘ m going to be a lot let previous about hunting down vinyl when I can get CD for quarter of the cost
Greg Lake Barbarian !!
I recently bought the Trettitre T-CP8 Portable CD player it’s Blu Tooth and is excellent , for some reason I was finding the DVD/CD players weren’t reading some CD’s via my computer . I feel there...
Having explored some great organ based trios and duos such as
Sixty- Nine
Cannabis India
Bondar & Wise
The Load
More recent
Bootcut
Yes thanks , I watched this last weeek , very interesting , guess very little income to be made from that type of music and hence a switch .
Wonderful ! looking forward to it .
Thanks again Bill for this recommendation. I managed to find a copy of the Live CD on Discogs (pricey and only 1 of them) but wanted to get it. I think you responded on Hoffman forum. I like the duo...
Few week ago I posted a thread on Keyboard dominated trios and duos and got some great names , recently picked up Sixty-Nine and Rejoice from Germany which are fantastic. Bondar and Wise are next for...
Bit of a left turn but I ve recently discovered the Before a Word is Said , Alan Gowen improvised album with some sublime Richard Sinclair fretless, tremendous
Saw that tour in London UK , went really to see Bozzio and always remember a review in the press later that said ‘ Bozzio was a nuclear power station in meltdown’ Always liked that
I bought a post show Live CD set from Asia Live at Shephers Bush in about 2010 I think it was . You paid and then got a double set of the show after about 30 mins wait . Both CDs deteriorated pretty...
Not sure I m getting the link correct here in the U.K. but doesn’t take me through to where the KC screening is showing , just lots of unrelated film showings . Am I doing something wrong ?
A Live Record Camel is a must for me
It seems an increasing Trent for these jazz/ fusion gigs to be played in front of a blue toothed headphone crowd . I m old but can’t imagine wanting that experience. I noticed some of the Simon...
Visiting Paris for few days and wonder if any recommendations for decent vinyl/CD shopping mainly Prog/ Jazz Fusion . Thanks
Have quite a few Alain Caron CDs , what a phenomenal and individual voice on fretless .
That could certainly be applied to I think the Footlose live DVD from the US , very disappointed with quality .
Just to throw I suspect a very minority position on tohight, I d happily cycle the 20 mile round trip but the venue does not offer secure cycle storage which means you have to just lock up on the...
I ‘ m based in London and apart from cycling there and back from Nth Finchley , can’t see how else I can get there . Cabs will be really expensive and will be hard to find . It’s a bit of a disaster...
I m also in London wondering how I will get to the RAH , even getting a taxi/ uber can be impossible on days like that .
I saw Midnight Sun played at Wembley 82 , 4 of them playing keys, drum loops , then playing individual instruments, what a great track. The unusual time signature . But whilst I enjoy the track on...
Loved the Downes solo , just sort of showing all the sounds but some great licks esp the mini Moog . Also a favourite Palmer solo , the Simmons intro and blistering speed but also quite short and...
Also at that gig which was good and well attended from memory . Always wondered what happened to drummer Trevor Thornton , saw him at a very small clinic some time later .
Also saw Asia with JP 1992 at Kentish Town Forum London , remember Howe on stage . Sort of strange gig . Think Trevor Thornton on drums when I half wondered if CP may make an appearance. JP wore a...
Picked up some Ekseption from a charity shop recently , Ekseption 5 is ok but a sort of Hooked on Classics greatest hits album is pure kitsch , very straight rhythm backing track which does make...
Hard to find but can recommend ‘ On the Road 1981’ it’s a pristine BBC in Concert recording . Stunning versions of Never let Go. Song within a Song , Lunar Sea and a lot of Nude .
Great album with some fabulous Moog solos . Have both vinyl and CD , Andy Ward fantastic in this too. Great album
Great quote I remember about Bozzio on this album
‘ A nuclear power station in meltdown’
The sheer commitment in his playing on here is astonishing.
Totally agree one of the best music books I ve read and so nice to have good solid critiques of various tracks / albums
I ve recently reviewed the live ELP boxed set for anyone interested
https://youtu.be/xmLd8tYxgCY
Great work , your interview style is unobtrusive and so refreshing.
And good knowledgable questions too, great interview.
I see the Wetton website has been revamped John Wetton Legacy I think. The box set is mentioned again but can't see any release date. Does anyone know any more about this ? I also wonder what has...
Actually preferred this version which is closer to my first exposure to this track at Wembley 82, along with the extended Midnight Sun , both were disappointing on the Alpha release, especially...
