    R.I.P. Ralph Schuckett (Rundgren's Utopia)

Keyboardist Ralph Schuckett passed away on Easter Sunday.

His son posted this on Facebook:

I want to thank everyone who's reached out, online or otherwise, with kind words and memories of my dad. The outpouring of love has been overwhelming. Anyone who knew Ralph knows what a brilliant musician he was and how much his love of music was a driving force in his life. Beyond that, everyone who knew Ralph knows what a warm, generous, funny, humble, and compassionate human he was. He was truly the best dad, a great friend, and he leaves such an absence in his wake. As much as we are devastated by the loss, we are relieved that he is at peace and without suffering. Thank you again for your comforting words and shared memories. It's these stories that keep Ralphie alive, and they've been such a gift right now as we grieve.
    Love,
    Casey

Ralph of course played keys on the debut Todd Rundgren's Utopia album as well as Another Live. He made appearances on other Todd/Utopia albums later on as well. He also notably played on and toured behind Carole King's Tapestry album.

Lots of pics and videos being shared - I thought this one of Jimi Hendrix, Todd and Ralph was pretty cool:

And a pretty cool video of Ralph and Carole performing together:

RIP Ralph. Great keyboardist. He also wrote the theme to the 80's sitcom Kate and Allie.

Unless that's Jimi's ghost, yes. This is a shot from the AWATS sessions in 1972.

BTW, I was today years old when I learned that Moogy Klingman's nickname doesn't come from the Moog synthesizer.

    R.I.P. Ralph.

Speaking of “legendary psychedelic,” he also joined up with the Peanut Butter Conspiracy for their third and last LP.

    From Carole King:

Ralph Schuckett was a sweet guy, a great friend, and a very talented cat. That’s his sparkling piano on Smackwater Jack.
    Rest In Peace and love.

Dang. I only knew him from those two Thodd albums, but ... dang. He was really good.
Cobra handling and cocaine use are a bad mix.
